After a long battle with cancer, the Hall of Fame catcher Gary "the Kid" Carter.

RIP
 
I have some great memories of that guy as a Mets fan.

His suffering is at an end. My he RIP.
 
Met Gary at the Mets camp for pitchers and catchers in February of 2003. A wonderfully nice gentleman who flirted with my wife, paid attention to the kids and made us feel perfectly at home. He was a fairly close friend of my brother's and we just got off the phone. Sad day.

This. The 1986 Mets were the sports team that I can remember caring about. Became an Astros fan after moving from NY to FL and going to Astros spring training and double a games, but my folks were (and are) Mets fans.
 
Just out of curiosity, anyone recall if he was a dipper? Don't think he was but can't recall.
 
He didn't have a tumor associated with tobacco abuse. But I don't think he used anyway
 
Had a really nice conversation with him on a flight from Norfolk to NY back in the late 80's. He had been in Norfolk after an injury.

RIP, Gary.
 
Major bummer; not only a great representative of our national pastime but a warm family man who they said, always greeted you with a smile.

The man who just died may not have been the best Expo player ever, but he surely was the biggest star in the history of the Expos.
 
I think that this has been publicly reported, but my brother told me that he had two brain tumors.
