Our Next BB Coach or #MannUp + other coach talk

Runs a clean program. Gets results. Doesn't back down from douches like Roy and K. What's so bad about that?

If there was anything that could seperate me from Wake Forest basketball, outside of a Baylor style murder cover-up, it would be hiring Bob Knight.

There are reports that Ben Howland has a good chance of getting fired after the season. That would certainly put Wake at least down to #2 as most coveted job openings.

Who covets serving a fanbase which will only give him one year before publicly libeling and slandering him? This fanbase alienated the coaching fraternity. We will shoot for someone way off the radar.

When did you turn into an AD shill? Next you'll be selling us on giving Lobo another shot.

He realized that we are in such a state of uproar that toting the company line is now the more effective line of trolling. If you were a moron you could almost admire it

Northern Iowa has played a tough non-con schedule(Louisville, Memphis, Stanford, George Mason, UNLV and St. Mary's) and other than a recent lopsided loss at UNLV they've played these guys close. Looking forward to seeing what they do in conference.

no one worth having is coming here until we have an AD who can bring in someone worth having.

I am very worried that this may be true... Is there a decent coach willing to work for Ron Wellman?

In my defense I started publicly trashing him five minutes after his name was leaked. It was a stupid hire and pretty much everyone around the country let out a collective "WTF" or at least "Who is that?" when his name was announced.

The worst marks against us at WFU are that we have a small, apathetic fanbase, a moronic, out-of-touch, douchebag of an AD, and not much money. Firing a shitty coach who never should have been hired is the least of our problems.

Yep. Great win.

As far as basketball goes, we're not an apathetic fan base when we win. We were called the toughest place to play in the ACC not that long ago.

Our biggest problem in attracting a good coach is that our douchebag AD doesn't want the basketball coach to recruit elite talent.

We're not a fairweather fanbase either. It took 3 years to get people to stop going outside in the tornado that is our basketball program.

Ben Howland is as good as gone

I'm afraid that the recruiting issues are coming down from higher than Wellman

This is a strategic decision and would be a legitimate issue for discussion at the Board of Trustee level. If President Hatch or Ron Wellman has made a unilateral decision to severely handicap our major sports programs, it is an issue for the BOT. That kind of decision has significant long term ramifications for; conference competitiveness, athletic funding, coaches willing to come to Wake, attractiveness to a larger applicant pool of students, and (potentially) membership in the ACC. (I would not think that the other member schools of the ACC would want to continue subsidizing a school that has decided to become a permanent beneficiary of the conference's generous distribution formula.)

There is no way that the BOT hired Hatch thinking that he was going to sabotage our athletic programs. If there has been a decision not to pursue top athletic talent, it is definitely an issue for the BOT. I sincerely hope that some of the Trustees are aware of these concerns. If some of you have an opportunity to speak with a Trustee, please express your concerns on this issue.

I'm going to use this to start a thread on this topic...
