The Pit Parenting Thread

He will get over it soon. But you're gonna have like a whole 'nother year of teething, which is horrible.

by 2 1/2 year old has recently entered the wonderful phase where every response to any question or statement is "why?" it's been about a two weeks. if he realizes it's driving me nuts i must applaud his ability to stick with it. no signs of letting up.

do you want some juice? why? you might be thirsty. why? you have not had enough to drink today. why? i don't know Will. you tell me. why? never mind. why? daddy can I have some juice now. yes. I'll get it in a moment. why? i have to wash my hands. why? i just fed the dog. why? dogs need to eat too. why?

i could go on and on and on

I am there with you on the "why." For us, though, he just never stops talking. Ever. Where are we going? to school. Why? bc you have school today. how you going? same way as always. why? bc that is how you go. Where? to school. Why?.........................

Yeahhhh teething is dumb.

Use teething tablets. They worked wonders for my oldest.

My 5 year old never really did the Why thing until recently. Now he asks deeper questions or questions that are harder to answer in an age appropriate manner.

We dodged a good one last week while watching Mulan.

"Why do they think Mulan is a girl?"

*wife and I exchange glances*

I respond, "Why do you think they think Mulan is a girl?"

"They had to take off her disguise to help her."

"That's a great answer."

*wife and I are relieved*

He's very interested in understanding the motivations of the bad guys in Disney movies.

Yeah, we use them but they don't always seem to help and I try not to give them too many times/days in a row.

my 5 yo daughter asks the deeper tough questions as well.

2 years ago i go to get her in the morning.

"dad, do you like vagina?" (I realize she was asking if i like her because we are different boy/girl and all that but i was incredulous but want to laugh and cry all at once.)

apparently i paused too long

"do you like penis?"

"let's get breakfast."

recently she put mom on the hot seat.

"was i there when you married daddy?"

"yes. you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye."

"where do babies come from?"

"when a mom and dad get married the daddy puts the twinkle in the mom's tummy."

Thankfully we haven't gotten those questions yet.

S is working on teeth numbers 13-16 right now. So much drool...E is a non-stop talker. I prefer the teething ;)

At this point you should just fire up YouPorn, sorry.

My parents have both kids for the first time this weekend while Wife and I are at beach and it is glorious.

Nice. Our closest parent is almost 6 hours away.

They always offer to meet us halfway and take 2 kids for a week (we have 3), but they don't seem to understand that that's not helpful at all. All it does is ask me to drive to Columbia and back while still not giving us a break.

I think they have to realize that's not helpful.

Our closest parents live four hours away but they're very old and my FIL has had major health problems. They can't watch the boys for more than a few hours at a time.

Not helpful is an overstatement. We'll send one of ours off to grent's house for a couple of nights and the relief of going from 2 to 1 is huge. 3 to 1 (for a week!) would feel like a vacation I would think.

Not as much when it involves over 5 hours round trip to drop them off and it's the youngest they don't offer to keep. If we could send the youngest 2, the oldest pretty much takes care of himself at this point (and we could probably finagle some sleepovers for him to get some adult only time).

Just found out my 5 year old took his tooth this morning in the car while I was driving. He didn't say a word about it.
