Have any of you ever ran the Marine Corps Marathon? I got in thru the lottery this year after not getting into New York.

Was my first marathon in 2007 and it was a great race. Very well put together. You'll have a blast

First Pilot Mtn ride of the year last weekend. Always good to get the first one out of they way as it (usually) gets better.

Tar Heel 10 Miler in just over 2 weeks. Anyone have any observations to share?

Signed up for the Virginia Wine Country half in June. Might be a little hilly but I love the area.

That looks awesome. Keep us posted on how it is - timing doesn't work out for me this year, but me (and a buddy of mine) could be interested in future years.

looking to get some pedals with clip-ins on one side and flat on the other

any recs?

I usually run about 15-20 miles a week, in 4 to 6 mile increments. How much time would I have to devote to be able to stretch this into a marathon from the position I'm in now. I do the vast majority of my running at night, after my kids have gone to bed, as it is really the only time that I feel like I'm not shortchanging them or my wife with my absence. Would a full be feasible with my shape and schedule?

You've got to realistically get up to 20 miles in a single long run in training at least. Some plans call for 22, I think. Depending on what kind of shape you're in that's probably a 3 hr training, so you'll probably have to move things around somewhat in the schedule to make it work. Hal Higdon's novice marathon plan has 2 longer runs a week and more runs like you're used to: https://www.halhigdon.com/training-programs/marathon-training/novice-1-marathon/

Thanks. Occasionally I stretch my runs to 10-12 miles when I have the time, and I don't really feel like I'm dying when I finish those. Think I could realistically get ready for a marathon in a month if I really started training? ETA I've always been into lifting and therefore I roll a little bigger than the average runner, about 6' 210. Do I need to cut a lot of weight in order to prevent wear and tear on my joints for the training. I'm not super concerned about time; it's more the whole wanting to finish sort of thing. I've done the Tough Mudder and finished a couple of Spartan Beasts, but I know that constant running for that length is much different than a 12 mile mud run.

^ I used the Higdon novice plans to go from up running 4-6 miles, to a half marathon, and then to a full. Its really simple to follow and modify around your schedule. I think I ran 22 before my first marathon. At its peak your probably running 7 or 8 hours a week. But it works, I went from being a novice runner to crushing my first marathon.

Also yesterday was the first day of Manifest and mine's 16 week half-ironman training plan. We did the 20 week plan last year until the race was cancelled two weeks out due to Florence. I modified it a little bit to where we train 5 days a week instead of 6, and we only do each exercise twice/week instead of three times, as we both were concerned about time constraints. Its hard to follow on here, but I'm gonna post it below if anyone who has completed an Ironman would like to provide feedback. RI - resting interval

We ran it the Cherry Blossom last weekend with a few of my wife's law school UVA friends. My wife PR'd (thanks to her incredible running partner) and honestly I really enjoyed the race. Very flat, the blossoms were beautiful and its just a cool area to run in. I wouldn't mind coming back and running it every year. It was great.

A month is pushing it IMO, but i would just see if you could stretch 12 to 15 to 18 to 20 in a condensed version of Higdon if you really want to try to make it work. The reason most programs stretch several months is slowly building up mileage so as not to get injuries.

I don't think weight is an issue as much as the strength of your joints.
