FUCK YOU, RON WELLMAN

My source is telling me the money was there for the buyout but Wellman wanted to give one big F U to everyone and show em whos boss. Went complety against donors and everyone else.

How does Hatch not intervene.?

I guess that is why you escort your employee out of the building when you fire him.

In isolation, this story is far-fetched and hard to believe. However, with the decision makers in question and the absurd series of events we've been subject to, it is completely credible. Fascinating, really.

Why is anyone surprised at this? No one was more drunk on their power than Wellman. He had that power taken away. This isn't the last spiteful thing that Ron will do between now and May 1st.

Seems like more AD spin to pacify an angry base. May 2 will come around and it will be leaked that Manning is staying.

Yeah. That doesn’t make sense. If they had the power to push him out, they would have done it before May 1st. If Wellman surprised them by keeping Manning then they just move up the transition.

I think it’s extremely unlikely Currie fires Manning in May. It would make the fans happy, but it could look like a real dick move to potential coaches. We tell Manning and staff they’re coming back, and then fire him. I think that scenario could make a lot of enemies in the coaching world.

Pay a good contract to the replacement and be good with the buyout. It’s business

We’re not here to make friends, we’re here to win.

Agree - that is chicken little LOWF shit. No self-respecting coach would pass on our job because we don’t hold people accountable. In fact, i think you could argue the opposite - that the school showing no interest in winning would dissuade some candidates.

I agree. It won’t happen. We all heard Currie sucking Wellman’s dick in the press conference. He wouldn’t embarrass Ron.

Of course. And in order to do so we need to hire a good coach.

Last time around we really didn’t have many good options and ended up with Manning. Why? No one knows for sure, but my impression was that the b-ball coaching world wasn’t happy with Wellman because of how he handled Dino. Maybe that’s incorrect, but Wellman was able to make great hires in football, soccer, tennis, etc but our b-ball coaching options seemed really limited.

I worry that telling Manning he has another year, and then firing him, could leave us in another situation in which our options are limited. Maybe I’m wrong - that’s just how I read the situation. If Currie reads it differently and fires Manning on May 2, I’m all for it, as he will have way more info than us speculating with limited facts.

Wellman's failures regarding basketball is simple: a mixture of lowballing talented coaches and a baffling obliviousness to how much people at WFU care about winning basketball games. With brand new, elite facilities and a new boss who has a lot to prove, the next search will be different. We don't know if it'll be any better, but it will be different!

I'm not going to give Wellman that much credit for the hires you listed. Dave Clawson kidnapped Mike Buddie until he got the job. Muuss came because Vidovich told him he should. I'll give Wellman credit for Bresky, but Wake Forest is a country club sports school above all else so of course he should have come here.

I assume Manning will be let go next March if there is not a significant improvement on the court. Even though I would happily tell John Currie who to consider for the job, he will not listen to me between now and May 2nd unless I win the Powerball. I think it wouldn't be that big a deal if the new guy does decide to do that though!

It won’t happen but I definitely don’t think it would look like a dick move for a new AD to fire a coach with back to back 20 loss seasons. No decent coach is going to be scared it could happen to him.

It won't happen at Wake but it would definitely happen at most programs that are really committed to winning.

Sure especially if the new AD wasn’t a disciple of the old AD.

I am calling BS on this one
