Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

“Around the state, a number of localities and other institutions are trying to take this legal product and say you can’t consume it outdoors,” said Sen. Buck Newton, a Wilson Republican, the bill sponsor. “I just personally find that objectionable.”

Doesn't NC have restrictions on public consumption of alcohol? Are they going after those next?

I just emailed the good Senator requesting that he permit open containers of alcohol. Go cups, Savanna style, FTW.

The only thing the General Assembly is looking to regulate these days is wind farms. Hilarious.

Buck Newton. Rick Gunn. NC is getting trolled by porn stars.

These dumb ass republicans better not fuck up my lake. It was already dirty but this is only going to make it worse

Even though it's narrower than the Senate plan there's still some pretty big oxen being gored. Spreading the franchise tax to LLCs would undo 20 years of tax planning for a lot of businesses that chose the LLC form in part because it is not subject to franchise tax (especially the commercial real estate industry).

Please tell me the school prayer Reps are also backing this bill.

"The North Carolina Values Coalition spoke in favor of the bill. "We do want to protect our citizens," said Laura McGee. "This bill re-clarifies that.""

All citizens are created equal, but some citizens are more equal than others.

The NC Legislature is quickly becoming among the absolute craziest in the country. Only true wackos would consider or vote for anti-Sharia law.

Anyone who thinks this is useful is batshit crazy and should be banned from serving in any elective office, school, building roads or even food service job.

"Similar measures have been filed or considered in more than 30 other states, but only a few states have voted them into law."

So far, the NC legislature isn't any crazier than more than half of other states. If it passes, then you may have a point.

all those in the thirty other states who promoted or voted for similar should also be banned from government employment as well the list i provided earlier and definitely any position where they would drive.

Anyone who supports of votes for such bills should have a mandated ninety day locked down mental health evaluation.

WRAL just tweeted that the city of Raleigh is considering banning dogs from parks and greenways. The dumb is spreading.

Edit: Link

Sounds like they're trying to get dogs off of athletic fields and playgrounds...which I thought was already illegal. No idea what Raleigh is really trying to accomplish here.

WTF?!?! Does that mean they are just trying to discourage people from using them so they can sell them off?

don't worry, the GOP in the state legislature will make sure there is a mandated exception for hunting dogs and any dog whose owner is smoking or carrying a concealed weapon.

The article mentions pet waste and allowing dogs off leashes inside athletic parks and playgrounds that are fenced in...both of which are already against the law.

One thing I do know? One of the last groups you want to pick a fight with is dog owners.
