Official Pit Job Search/Employment Thread

Really anything. Technically, I'm already doing what I want to be doing, I just need a second job.

I left the church where i was working in August to plant a new church in Greensboro. As we get started, I need another job alongside being the pastor of a new and very small church. I've been working part-time at a restaurant since September to help make up the difference between what I was making and what I'm making now - but the schedule isn't working all that well (have to get up @ 4 am when I work) and the pay is pretty terrible - plus it's not a great company to work for. My wife's job just got restructured as well, meaning she'll be making about 5k less.

So I'm looking for something new. It can be part or full time - I just can't really work nights and weekends. I know it narrows the field of jobs, but I'm looking for something that when I'm done for the day I can leave the job @ the job so I can still focus on being the lead pastor of a new church. I've applied for some administrative assistant jobs and some of the colleges around here and for the treasurer position at a local elementary school. I'm really open to anything. I know because I do have another job with the church plant, that is somewhat of a concern in getting a job, but because of how we structure our finances at the church (we take the whole "love your neighbor as your yourself" thing seriously - so 50% of our budget is spent on others outside the church and investment in the community and no more than 50% is spent internally), it will be at least several years before I would be able to be supported solely by the church.

If you know of anything in the area, I'd love to hear about it.

Wait, wait. You left a well paying job at another church to "seed" a new church? Don't we already have enough around the US? For fuck's sake, why not do something useful with your free time?

I get it. Jebus probably spoke to you in a dream or something. But this just seems like a fools errand. If I were your wife, I'd divorce you.

I'll assume this is a troll and move on.

Someone who goes off on his own to start his own business in his field shouldn't get that kind of response.

It depends on how you define a church.

If a church is a simply building where people go once or twice a week talk about God, then we may have enough churches in the US.

If a church is simply an organization whose purpose is to propagate itself and grow larger and only benefits those who are its members, the amount of churches in the US is probably sufficient.

But if a church is a people who live in response to the character and nature of God, who believe the most basic story of human existence is one of a God who, at great cost to himself, is working to restore and reconcile everything, who believe that this story should be the character of their lives - to seek the good and well being of those around them regardless who they are or what they do or what faith they have (if any) - not because that earns some cosmic brownie points with God - but because that is who God is and what God has done for them - A people who live a life that is characterized by humility and grace who care more about what happens throughout the week than during an hour on Sunday, then no, I don't believe there are enough churches in the US and I don't believe there can ever be too many churches in the US.

this is the best response of all responses.

As long as there are people who can't find a good church, there aren't enough churches.

If there are any tech folks in DC looking for work feel free to PM me. We're always looking for Unix Admins, DBA's, COTS products specialists, etc. Occasionally good PM's as well or even sales folks. Filled 2 positions last week but more are on the way. Having a clearance helps, but usually you just need to be able to obtain a clearance. Most of the work is Federal Contracting.

I'm looking to hire a sales person with experience working in the Salesforce.com ecosystem. I would love to hire a qualified Deac. PM me and I'll direct you to the posting.

IamThunderbolt, you may know my friend from high school. Clear out your inbox and I'll send you her name. She left Durham to move to Greensboro to be part of a church plant. I think it's called Mercy Hill or something like that.

How's your voice? I have some voiceover work I need to contract out over the summer (you could record at FTCC), it wouldn't be a ton of work, but you could fit in around your schedule.

How's your scientific pronunciation? I'm not kidding about needing someone to do this stuff, and I can't contract it out to the guy we've used in the past because he now works for the school.

ummmm....good I guess? I can crush a word like chlorophyll. If we're talking something like deoxyribonuclaic then it may take a few attempts to get it right.

This will end well.

What type of time commitment are we talking about here?
