Wilmington/Wrightsville lodging recommendations

There's weekend places to rent that are actually on the river walk, they look amazing. Little spensive but very romantic.
 
Intracoastal Realty has a rental office on the main floor at Station One. It's an 8 story complex with nice facilities that's about as centrally located as you can get at Wrightsville. No idea if they rent by the weekend or just by the week at that time of the year.
 
I am planning a long weekend in Wilmington in mid May with wife and dogs and have never been there. Is it better to stay in town or out at beach?
 
Fun, relaxation, good drinks and good food. Want to visit this tower 7 joint for sure.
 
Can’t take your dogs on the beach that time of year I think. Just FYI.
 
No dogs on beach would be a deal breaker. What’s downtown like? Similar is any way to Savannah?

Can’t take dogs off leash there either. Downtown is ok. It’s gotten a lot better, but it’s pretty small.
