Pit Pet Thread

Anyone had an issue with reoccurring UTIs? Took Zusi to the vet today (3 yo black lab) and looks like she has a pretty severe UTI, third one in as many months. They ran an ultrasound and said her bladder was pretty blurry, usually a sign of dried blood. They gave me 2 weeks worth of meds and want to do a urine sample after completion. Said if it doesn’t clear up the next step would be blood work to check for the C word. Dr also mention her eyes are bloodshot red, but they have been that way every day since she was a puppy so not sure why that’s worrying him now. I’ve asked about them every time before and it hasn’t been an issue. Fun day

New foster puppy arrived today. Holy shit this is a cute and sweet dog. Some how I am going to have to give this guy back to the rescue for a trip northward to New Jersey in three weeks.

Can't shake the UTI, even after the first round of meds. Time for round two then another urine/blood test. Sigh

Still cute though

On Friday, Mrs. tvcigar and I went to Charlotte to pick up our new rescue french bulldog. Her name is Betty Sue and she is 3 years old. Our other Frenchie, Tater has been looking for a friend/sibling ever since our older Frenchie passed away last February. She is a sweetheart.

I'd post a picture here, but that is above my skill level.

I need a Pit ruling. Do we finally have a true example of irony?

Good luck with the pups, tvcigar! I hope they have a long, happy life together.

What can you do about a dog that constantly shakes his head and claws at his ears? I mean my Shih Tzu doesn't have ear mites or fleas, has his ear hair plucked frequently, and we clean his ears by flushing them frequently as well. We finally just put some Vaseline in last night but not sure that is the ticket.

Any thoughts?

We use vets best ear relief wash and dry on our basset mix, and it works great.

My suggestion is ask for a referral to an animal dermatology or ENT specialist. As good as our regular vet is with my dogs, going to a specialist for my dog's ear problems was the best decision and provided him some relief after so many other treatment plans had much lesser impact. We now have a prescription two step ear solution (1 washes, 1 coats & dries) plus some tips on things to do or avoid so as to not aggravate the ears.

This is Owen, my current foster puppy. He is ginormous, only 10 weeks old but already about 32 pounds. He is getting shipped to a rescue in Pennsylvania on December 26th.
