Shocking news: The war on marijuana is racist. http://reason.com/blog/2013/06/04/the-war-on-pot-is-both-insanely-racist-a

In Brooklyn, NY, and St. Louis City, MO, Blacks comprise 37% and 50% of the residents, respectively, and are 12 and 18 times more likely to be arrested than whites. In Chambers, AL, and St. Landry, LA, Blacks account for more than twice as many marijuana arrests (90% and 89%, respectively) than they do of the overallpopulation (39% and 42%, respectively). In Morgan and Pike Counties, AL, Blacks make up just over 12% and 37% of the population, respectively, but account for 100% of the marijuana possession arrests.

And expensive: The ACLU estimates the total national expenditure of enforcing marijuana possession laws at approximately $3.613 billion. In 2010, states spent an estimated $1,747,157,206 policing marijuana possession arrests, $1,371,200,815 adjudicating marijuana possession cases, and $495,611,826 incarcerating individuals for marijuana possession.

Not to mention the lifelong productivity loss and resulting dependence on government assistance that results from having a criminal record.

Silly 923. White people don't use pot or any other kind of drug.

So are you arguing that we should have arrest limits based on race? Dammit Frank, I know we're watching that white guy light a cross on that family's lawn, but we've already arrested one white guy for hate crimes this month, and whites only make up 50% of our county's population, so we have to wait for two people of other races to commit hate crimes first before we can come back and pick up this guy.

no, the argument is that marijuana laws are arbitrary, racist, expensive and worthless.

but you're smart enough to figure that out on your own...

Blacks are also arrested 6.3 times as often as all other races for murder. Does that mean the war on murder is arbitrary, racist, expensive, and worthless?

Blacks also make up 78% of the NBA. Does that mean the NBA is arbitrary, racist, expensive, and worthless?

I'm all for legalizing just about every drug but if you think that drug dealers in the cities are going to decide to go to school or get a productive job instead you're sadly mistaken. You could also throw in free birth control, free health care and whatever else you can think of and I still wouldn't step foot in certain areas at night.

Unfrickinbelievable......every day you say something that goes into a new universe of crazy:

"White people between the ages of 18 and 25 use marijuana at a higher rate than their black peers, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, so you would naturally assume that young white people would also have a higher arrest rate for marijuana possession than young black people. But that's not the case. A report released last week found that police in California's biggest cities arrest blacks for possession at four, five and even 13 times the rate of whites."

You realize there's a difference between possession and intent to distribute right/

From the link in the original post:

""In 2010, the Black arrest rate for marijuana possession was 716 per 100,000, while the white arrest rate was 192 per 100,000," the ACLU says. That national disparity is reflected (to varying degrees) at the local level, "regardless of whether Blacks make up 50% or 5% of a county’s overall population." Blacks were more likely than whites to be arrested for pot in 908 of the 945 counties for which the ACLU crunched data. And that disparity--as you can see in the chart at right--has actually gotten worse over the years."

newsflash: if you smoke weed in the hood you're more likely to get arrested than in the suburbs.

Legalize every minority crime or make every crime legal for minorities...only way to avoid racism.

this post drips in racism....behind its hamhanded sarcasm.

Maybe if we put away as high a percentage of white people who smoke and possess pot as the minority people woh do, you'd be bitching about that.

There's no question drugs are enforced unfairly due to the race of the user.
