True Detective on HBO

I'm not sure how the beer affects the analysis, but I don't think Miranda would be an issue in this scenario.
The lack of miranda rights is fine because they have not arrested him. The alcohol thing is just what is interesting.

I initially thought the cops were okay with providing alcohol because they thought it might get him to provide more information.

it does make you wonder how high up this conspiracy goes if all these low-life shitheads know all about it

Jesus what a show. Finally watched this week's episode and it was fantastic. I loved Cohle's speech about M-Brane theory. Such a fascinating topic.

I have a really, really hard time believing it could be Cohle. I feel like the show is setting us up for it with the detectives fingering him, and how quick he was to act at the meth house after LeDoux and his helper were killed.

I'd almost bet that Cohle has been trying to track down the Yellow King since 2002(reasons he has been in and out of the state) and that his storage unit is full of his research.

yeah, i think the exploring the school hinted that he's been doing that since. blogs said the same thing about the unit

it would be funny if they open it and a bunch of devil traps pour out

Anyone remember when Hart and Cohle question the sheriff about the Fontanot girl? How the reports were made in error?

Yeah, I forgot about that. Was wondering the significance of that screen.

I went back and watched both scenes to make sure. The old sheriff's name is Ted Childress. One of the deputies that escorted the pharmacy murderer out was named Childress.

Yeah, the True Detective subreddit has a thread on it. Jesus these guys don't miss much.

If the flashback scenes are intended to show ACTUAL events, then it clearly isn't cohle as the killer. He would not have spent hours and hours reviewing case files after the first murder if he had been the one who killed Lange and presumably the girl found in the river. The only way cohle could be the killer is if the writers have included false flashback scenes, which I don't think they have.

Last episode had the best line of the series, better than crazy pussy, by cohle after Marty shot ledoux. "Fuck him. Good to see you commit to something."

Yeah, I think you are right. We do see how much work Cohle put in to find Ledoux.

Oh yeah I definitely don't think its Cohle. The two officers just think its him due to all the inconsistencies in his story, however we (and Hart) know that those inconsistencies exist because of all the stuff they did off book.

And its not like Cohle killed the two guys to cover his tracks, he did so because of Hart shooting the guy already in cuffs. Cohle acted quickly to cover it up because he's been in similar situations before during his time undercover.

Its definitely going to be some sort of conspiracy that is connected way up the food chain. Because if it isn't and if was Cohle the whole time, then absolutely nothing we've been watching happen is true and I'm not sure anyone would walk away from the show thinking it was worth watching. Hard to imagine any studio or network signing off on that, especially if they plan on having numerous seasons of this show.

Also, nice symbolism at the skate rink as the Kinks "tired of waiting for you" plays leading into Marty's talk with his wife.

Questions like this are mind boggling. How can you miss the phone call MM made?

I didn't miss it. It just seemed a time to suspend disbelief. Beaumont is not a small town, so you have to assume that he is (1) close to where he needs to be already, and (2) knows his way around the residential streets in Beaumont's hood. The first would have to be a matter of luck or the police scanners, but the police had only just arrived and were likely already nearby so the time between his phone call and whatever dispatch went out over the police scanners is pretty negligible. Basically, him getting there in 90 secs (I didn't actually time it to see how long it really turned out to be) seemed a bit fortuitous. I am perfectly willing to accept that he did to further my enjoyment of the show, however.

Well maybe......during Cohle's narco days when he was "blacking out", which the cops referenced, he woke up and found himself with a spiral tattoo or something related. That would explain why he flipped out in the interrogation, and why LeDoux said Cohle was in his dreams. Maybe Cohle isn't trying to solve the murder, maybe he's trying to protect himself.

LeDoux's helper also referenced Rust's soul corroding....Rustin Cohle (Soul).

It was on the back of his shoulder (I'm pretty sure).
I looked last night and didn't see it. Plus when they talked about the evidence that linked the cases, they only said the stick figures and LSD, no mention of a similar tattoo.

Pulled this from the Suque. I think we are going to find that Marty's FIL is involved as one of the "big" guys. His daughter clearly has issues (Goth, weird piictures she was drawing). She either observed something or has the wacko genes (or both).
