When Did National Parks Become Important?

It’s amazing how Republicans have gone people to believe public lands controlled by the Department of the Interior aren’t in the hands of the American people. But if they’re sold off to whoever, they are in the hands of the American people.

This. It's laugh-out-loud absurd to argue that somehow selling public monuments and protected areas to private owners and corporations so they can drill, exploit, and damage these lands for private profit is somehow "returning them to the hands of the American people." Keeping them under public ownership is keeping them in the hands of the American people, selling them to corporations for private gain is not. Somewhere, Teddy Roosevelt weeps. The modern GOP has Orwellian dialogue down pat.

The Department of the Interior has selected Karen Budd-Falen, an anti-public lands advocate, for a senior legal position at the department. The move is controversial: Budd-Falen is an ally of right-wing extremist Cliven Bundy, who is best known for leading an armed 2014 standoff with federal officials in Nevada after he refused to pay his grazing fees.

You don't think that being a governor and (in Romney's case) having decades of successful business experience would make them better qualified than a community organizer / junior senator who waffled on his votes? The proof is in the history. Following his election our federal government has imploded and become a useless laughingstock. Absent some sort of nuclear holocaust, is it even possible that it could have gone worse?

Holy shit. This quote is hilllllllllarious today. Nice job 2&2

Fuck Trump. Under his administration our national park system has already suffered near catastrophic damage due to poor leadership and the government’s lack of value toward public lands. Privatizing national parks is among the worst ideas this administration has put forth. We should be doing everything in our power to maintain and improve the maintenance and care of our national parks, forests, monuments, and recreational areas.

Fuck Trump, fuck his administration, fuck all those leeches that only see national lands as potential profits. We have some of the most beautiful lands in the world, some of the most unique naturally occurring phenomena in the world, and we have to deal with this shit AND him making the fucking StL Arch a National Park. Fucking piece of shit
