Retained Grobe Staff

Not interested in shitting on Grobe. He did a lot of great things for the program and certainly a lot more good than bad. It was time for a fresh start and I'm thrilled with the guy we got. Don't know why it's so difficult.

This. Grobe took our program to a new place and it was just time for someone else to take over.

Clawson reminds me of skip when he talks about recruiting. No more LOWF - we are going after the best players available.

Also reminds me of Skip in '03. We are here to win every game we play. Rebuilding is not an excuse.

Looks like the DC is confirmed as coming down:

Wake Forest: Bowling Green defensive coordinator Mike Elko will join the Wake Forest staff, a source informed CoachingSearch.com.

That's great news. A lot of the fans wanted him to apply for the HC job or stay.

"Retained Grobe Staff" is a bit misleading. Someone might want to change it.

OC is coming too. Just waiting on BG to make a hire before we know about STC. Probably won't hear on that front until after Christmas.

Jonathan Himebauch ‏@COACH_HIMEY 58m
Good to be back on the road spending time with future Deacs with @CoachClawson tonight. #GoDeacs

Glad Himebauch is staying. Does the ST coach really matter? When is the last time we actually had a specific ST coach???

Grobe had 3 years with a winning ACC record and 10 years with a below .500 conference record. He only had 6/13 seasons with a winning record overall. No way he had more good than bad at Wake Forest. He's a good person, but isn't so good as a football coach when it comes to winning and motivation.

:bullshit:

We never really did. It matters a lot. Their ST were ranked in the top 10 nationally this year. ST plays absolutely break games wide open.

Coach Henry became Special Teams Coordinator the year before he was let go.
He went from DE coach to DB coach alongside Lambert and finally Special Teams Coordinator.

Our Special Teams sucked that year.

Agreed. It's a place few teams seem to spend much time/effort, so we can gain a nice advantage if we're great at it.

I'm pretty sure that Larry Fedora coaches ST at UNC fwiw. Every facet of ST was absolutely crucial to our ACC Championship.

Not really true anymore. Most teams spend significant time on special teams these days, especially coverage and return units. The problems generally result from the lack of true coaching of kickers, as well as poor depth that makes it difficult to sustain good special teams units. A lot of teams (Wake included) end up balancing out whether to play starters on special teams (causing more fatigue and risking injury) or playing 2nd and 3rd teamers who just aren't that good.

Don't assume Himebauch is staying. He is paid through 12/31, and he is most likely just helping transition players from the old staff to the new staff. He might get the job, but the fact he is on the road doesn't mean anything right now.
