splitting TV from internet & phone

I'm thinking of switching from Cox cable to Direct TV, but using Cox for my internet and phone service. Are their any logistical problems in doing this? I assume the Cox line would bypass my splitter to feed directly to the phone/internet modem, while a new feed from the Direct TV dish would use the splitter. Is that correct?
