Yes. I recall speculation, perhaps from Howard himself, that he would have gone pro without that injury. Perhaps it worked out for the best even though the next season ended poorly. First place in the regular season was a nice accomplishment. Oregon got crushed by Kansas in the Elite 8. I don’t think that 2002 team had much of a final four chance.

2003 was a different story. Auburn loses to Syracuse by 1. Syracuse handles everyone else handily until the finals.
