ATP: Austin, TX

Nice of Brasky to spend ten times as much ogb-energy on the Chicago v. Charlotte thread rather than the one about the place where he actually lives.

You're welcome. The thing about Austin is that there are too many places to recommend. Its best just to get yourself to a certain area and just walk around and enjoy it. Which is the exact opposite of Charlotte. A place that when you're bored, you drive 10 mins to another place, to be just as bored.

Yeah, because the op was asking about how much there is to do in Charlotte. No, actually he was asking about things to do in the city in which you live and basically never shut up about. So now you have a chance to share your wealth of knowledge and help out a fellow poster.

Austin sucks. Don't ever move here. If you know someone thinking of moving here, tell them it's basically Terminus from the Walking Dead. STAY AWAY!

Can any of you Austin donks speak to what the commute from Austin to Round Rock is like?

If you have to commute to or through downtown it can be a pain. If you only need to go to north Austin or can go in low traffic times it is easy.

It sucks during both rush hours but is normally only about 15 mins from downtown to Round Rock. Most people who do it live in North Austin and try to avoid I-35.

Oh and what Semi-Tough said. We full.

Yo Wakephan is Cafe Medici the place where we had those BALLER booze filled hot apple ciders?

Naw, Caffe Medici is just a random coffee shop chain. One of my buddies was at one of them the other day and overheard some girl talking about going to Wake and studying abroad at Worrell. He failed to offer her my proposal of marriage, sadly. That's the only reason I mentioned it.

The baller Hot Toddies were at Rio Rita. They've got the best bloody marys in town, as far as I've experienced. Though those Casino El Camino ones were pretty ridiculous looking.

Bump, because on the recommendations of TexasDeac10 and Deacfan2009, I think I'm heading to Austin for MLK weekend. Where is the best location to stay and do I need to rent a car or should I just get cabs/Uber? A lot of the threads about Austin mention walkability as a big plus, so I'm assuming a car isn't necessary. Also, anyone have any new and exciting restaurant or bar recommendations - there are a lot between this thread and the two linked threads, but I think the last post was about 8 months ago.

have a meal at South Congress Cafe (brunch is good, great bloody mary, expect a long wait regardless) and browse the various stores

We tried to do BBQ at La Barbecue but my plane arrived too late and we were gambling on not getting food so we went down the road to Kerlin. Just eat BBQ, tacos, and food trucks and you're golden.

No need to rent a car unless you're trying to make multiple trips out to the country side. Which is cool as long as it's not rainy and cold. Uber is everywhere here.

What are you trying to do while you're here and where are you staying?
