ESPN- Haith to leave Mizzou for Tulsa

On the flip side, Tulsa has a very good and long track record of hiring very good coaches. Maybe they think they have found a guy who is not nearly as good as Tubby Smith or Bill Self, etc..., but is very unlikely to leave for greener pastures. He's found the ideal landing spot for his abilities/recruiting. Maybe???

I assume they are sick of hiring the up and coming coach who leaves after a little success. So they hired a guy about to be fired knowing that he likely won't leave for the big show.

If Haith wins big at Tulsa and wins clean, he is gone.

Tulsa is going to have a good season next year. They are set up for success. Not only does Haith know when to flee, he knows where to flee. He took over a loaded Mizzou team as well.

Yeah, Tulsa should be very good for the next two years. Haith will take two years and a $1 M + per year salary then bolt to another power conference team in need of a coach.

That story also, citing "source" says Haith's Tulsa deal is for 7 years, at an average of $1.85 million per.

holy shit balls if Tulsa is paying Haith 1.85MM for 7!

That's more than Kevin Ollie or Mick Cronin (other AAC coaches) make.

Haith also texted Mizzou's AD this morning to tell them he was taking the Tulsa job. Meanwhile he called a team meeting yesterday where he didn't tell them anything.

Massively stupid hire at those numbers (and risky hire at any numbers). I'd rather pay whatever the hell they think we're paying Manning (should be up to $11-12M by now) than pay Haith $1.85M.

Can see why Manning was on the fence about coming here. Must have offered $2MM.

Tulsa moving from Conference USA to the old Big East new American Athletic Conference next year so they will have much more money to spend. Supposedly spending an average of $1.85 mill for 7 years for Haith. Still his 2 biggest things are Larranaga getting the ACC title that he couldn't get and being the #2 seed 2 seasons ago with 30 wins at Mizzou and losing to Norfolk St. They are what Wiki calls the biggest NCAA tourney upset in that they were 22 point favorites in that game and got beat.

Good move by Haith though as seat was getting hot at Mizzou over that loss, not making it this year, another arrest just last week & losing 3 players off this team. Prospects in the average SEC did not look good for next year.

Mizzou fans hated him. He's getting out while his stock is still somewhat high. Nice move on his part

Kind of wish we would have pumped the brakes with completing the hiring of Manning's staff. Bringing Tim Fuller in as first chair would have been nice.

This is fantastic.

Gotta hope Tim Fuller isn't going with him. Maybe he will get a look from wherever Mizzou and Tennessee get their next coaches.

Missouri assistant basketball coach Tim Fuller will consider the head-coaching job at Florida A&M if he’s released from his Mizzou contract, a source close to the situation told the Post-Dispatch. FAMU, located in Tallahassee and a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, has targeted Fuller for the position, as first reported by CBSSports.com. Fuller has been serving as MU’s interim coach since Frank Haith accepted the head coaching job at Tulsa last Friday.

@GoodmanESPN: Frank Haith's new staff at Tulsa: Dave Leitao, Tom Abatemarco and Dennis Felton.

Well it's going to be a pretty experienced staff, probably positioned well to have decent results in the new conference as Nova and UCONN seem to be the only "top level" teams remaining. Tulsa must be willing to spend a lot of its new AAC money with Haith and co.

UCONN and Nova aren't in the same conference.
