Triad restaurant comings, goings and recs

I just noticed the 'Food Truck Court" on 4th street across from the new building at 4th/Broad. I didn't realize they had a full time truck parked there during the week now (I think they have been at Krankies before), and are going to be adding a burger truck:

Anyone been?

I haven't heard of the pickle dog but looking forward to it: http://foodfreaksofnc.com/index.html

Ohh nice. Gonna have to try that out! I didn't know about this food truck court thing but I like it.

The pickle dog is great. Had it at the fair the past couple years. Their pimento cheese burger is also very good, though it ends up less like a stuffed burger and more like a big gooey mess.

Buttermaker and I have sampled Luciano's tacos.

Bueno.

Food Freaks recently introduced a burger with fig preserves, which is fantastic.

Yeah I had a burger off the menu at Hops with goat cheese and it was pepper jelly. It was really tasty.

that one is very good. i like Hops a lot except the wait is often ridiculous which is hard with little kids, need to try Burger Warfare.

You can't beat yourself into Hops on most evenings or the weekend. And there is no where to wait as the bar is usually full, too.

You've got to go during lunch or do takeout.

Went back to BW Sunday after church b/c the kids wanted to. My opinion of it went down a little. Once the novelty wears off, not sure how well it will do with the other options available.

Hops really needs to double its size. My only issue with Hops is the wait and lack of place to do so. It's so frustrating.

They have no room to grow in the current location. Being overcrowded is a good problem to have as a restaurant owner I guess.

Oh, they'd have to move. Overcrowded is good unless you're losing lots of potential business.

Yep, and people might not go back to your restaurant if they figure that the wait will be too long.

i know zip about restaurant management. I assume there is some kind of tipping point, but on the other hand there are restaurants all over America that have been in business for decades and people line up out the door to eat there. https://www.yahoo.com/travel/top-10-best-restaurants-with-the-longest-lines-93124715207.html

Not saying Hops is in that category, I just think it is an interesting phenomenon.

If I ran Hops I would institute call ahead seating or something to try and manage it.

As a customer, I'd love call ahead. As a business that's full all the time, I'd not want to leave a table vacant, even for 10 minutes. I know just about as much about restaurant management as you do.

I do think Hops is popular because the food and beer are fantastic, not because they're crowded. As long as they keep the same quality food, I'd think they could open a location towards the Palladium area.
