Supreme Court upholds most of Texas redistricting plan

The Supreme Court on Monday upheld nearly all aspects of a Texas redistricting plan adopted in 2013, ruling that lower courts went too far in concluding that the maps were tainted by an intent to discriminate against Latino voters.

The 5-4 decision split the court along its usual ideological lines, with all Republican appointees voting to allow the bulk of the Texas legislature’s plan and all Democratic appointees dissenting. The vote tracked with the justices' decision last September to temporarily block the lower court’s ruling requiring the maps to be withdrawn.

The high court’s majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, found that only a single state House of Representatives district was unconstitutionally drawn.

Even more dangerous than the decision today is the horror story if Anthony Kennedy retires after this session. We could easily overturn many core civil rights and environmental decisions that could harm for the rest of the millennials lives.

Great news! Trump gets to place another conservative justice on the bench--one who will actually deal with the Constitution, just like Gorsuch! Wow, awesome.
 
This is a disaster for our country.

Civil, human and worker rights will be turned back decades.

But it is very very good for the conservative side and the people who want to see the Constitution dealt with and acted on like it was written by the founders, not the liberal way who have tried to make their own laws with it.
 
Republicans made 2016 about the Supreme Court. Democrats failed to do the same. Now there will be long-term repercussions. It really doesn’t matter who gets elected. The conservative Court can derail pretty much anything a Dem President and Dem Congress does.
 
Kennedy had quite a tenure on the bench. Wrote nearly every important decision on gay rights during the time period: Romer v. Evans, Lawrence v. Texas, Windsor, and Obergefell v. Hodges.

Sure, Donald is more likely to appoint an originalist or strict constructionist than a Democratic president would be. There haven't been many recent decisions that I recall where "liberals . . . have tried to make their own laws with [the Constitution]" though - at least that I recall. Maybe you have some examples.

Enough Democrats didn't vote or didn't vote for Hillary because of reasons.
