McCreary Indoor Practice Center - Collegiate Arms Race Thread

We didn't build ours for punting. It's plenty high for everything else.

Just to echo this, the pictures don't really do it justice. To me it seems much bigger in person than in pictures.

Note to self: Put A/Z Corp on DO NOT USE list for building contractors for Monorail.

The IPC is supposed to open in about 7 weeks....exterior must be done by now....pics Bob please ?

7 weeks? More like 7 months, maybe. These photos are from about a week ago. They are laying the bricks on the exterior.

It's definitely moved at a snails pace, but there's not 7 months of work left. The stucture is done. There's very little masonry left in the pictures and the rest should go up quick (if it's not already done). The rest of the exterior is windows and metal panels. There shouldn't be much interior finish work...big building, but almost no interior structure, power, plumbing, etc. Then again, at the pace it's gone so far...

Other than starting the entire reason the structure is being built, you are correct, there isn't much interior work to finish.

It's a little bit of lighting, heat/AC and laying down a field surface. Maybe a couple of walls for storage rooms and bathrooms? It's very much minimal work compared to the detailed power/plumbing/etc required in most any other similarly sized building.

Just reposting the rendering so people can remember that the masonry on this building only goes up a few feet, with the rest of the walls being giant windows.

Given the long-term weather forecast I bet the team wishes it was done already... gonna be soggy for days it seems.

It's interesting that in his last radio show, in response to a question from Stan about preparing for bad weather, Clawson said that the preparation for rain on gameday is practicing in the rain as much as you can. Funny how we build an indoor facility to avoid practicing in inclement weather when we need to practice in the inclement weather.

The IPC is just to impress recruits and a place to hold graduation when it rains. You didn't think we would actually use it for practice did you?

It's really helpful for Spring predawn workouts.

I don't think anyone can legitimately rationalize why we needed a multi-million dollar indoor facility in an area of the country that sees sunshine 300+ days/year and warm weather almost 10 months of the year.

It's just what the other "kids" are doing and we had to keep up for recruits.

What? Lights, warmth, dry field? No way! Much too soft for Clawson! He'll have 'em outside, shivering, in the dark, slogging through dew laden fields.

Too bad the other kids aren't building biology and chemistry buildings.

Amazingly, I was in Tribble a few months ago, and they actually have spent some money updating the interior finishes in there. The ROI in alumni donations from all of us pathetic Tribblite humanities kids has got to be dwarfed by the surgeons and what not coming out of the science buildings, plus science actually can get real federal grant dollars. It's a headscratcher. But anyway, great that our football players get to practice inside when there's summer lightning. Can't fall behind FSU on that front.
