McCreary Indoor Practice Center - Collegiate Arms Race Thread

Yeah this. Couldn't soccer and field hockey use it with minimal set up on a bad weather day?

Yes. Both soccer teams already use the turf practice field when ground conditions are terrible. They used it a lot in their early morning workouts this winter with all the ice/snow wreaking havoc on their practice fields off polo.

Grobe's reaction to this news was interesting I'm sure

Slowly picked at the turf from a squatting position?

Hands on hips, blank stare. He then told his wife to run through the middle of the kitchen but she immediately hit a wall. Somehow it was a two yard loss. He then punted the laptop.

:bowrofl:

Hard to guage from artist renderings but VT's building looks taller with possibly a couple more interior amenities but is priced nearly identical to Wake's.

Looks like their indoor field will be the only practice field over 65 yards long...

The construction of the facility does mean that the football team loses two full practice fields. However, the west practice field will be transformed into two smaller practice fields – one of 75 yards in length and one of 65 yards – and the field can be “turned” into one 100-yard field.

The article does mention that the VT facility will be 85 feet tall, allowing for punting/kicking indoors...though I don't really see that as much of a benefit. Sounds like they put a premium on aesthetics since it will be viewable from the stadium. Meanwhile, our practice facilities are mostly hidden from the public.

Meanwhile, it looks like we'll clear some landscaping, extend our short field and end up with 3 full length practice fields as part of this project.

Part of that height is probably about keeping with the profile of Cassell Coliseum.

Updated renderings for the sports performance center, indoor practice facility, and an additional practice court for (women's?) basketball

Not we're talking. Tying them all together will be impressive looking and explains why the end of the indoor practice field is rendered to just be cheap metal exterior for now.

Holy Moly now we're talkin' !

But why did we need another hoops practice court beyond Miller ?

"If you build it, they will come". HONDO, maybe it's so the women's team can practice at the same time. Manning will get the new gym.
