At least 172 Palestinians killed, 1,280 injured, UN says 77% are civilians

I never said that they don't have the right to defend themselves, what I said was it's completely different than America, Canada, and Mexico. Your hypothetical doesn't have any backdrop, it's just our neighboring countries lobbing missiles. This is not the beginning of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It did not start one week ago.

I would avidly support the U.S. not appropriating billions of dollars a year for the Israeli defense.

i agree.

that would definitely solve the problem. israel barely won the six day war, once they ran out of US munitions it'd be overrun. we would have to do something to protect the civilian refugees, which would be it's own mess, but yeah i agree with ur post.

we simply can't afford it as a country to prop up another country on the opposite side of the world. We're still a super power but a lot weaker one than we were 50 years ago when we helped start this mess.

So why can't Israel hit back at Hamas?

There would be no strikes going on if not for Hamas. You can't deny this.

We give Israel a total about $3B/year in military aid. They spend over $15B/year on their military.

We are hardly propping them up.

By the way in 2012 we gave over $2B in aid to our "friends" in Pakistan and a similar amount to Afghanistan. We are giving over $1.6B to Iraq.

The reality is we are giving more aid to the enemies of Israel than we are to them.

Yes I can because both countries have shot rockets at each other before Hamas came into power.

I didn't say Israel can't hit back, I think it's absurd that they're using the "rocket barrage" that they know is going to be shot down by their iron dome (and that they know Hamas knows will be shot down) as an impetus to bomb a densely populated area chalk full of civilians.

I mean there would be no strikes going on if the Allies hadn't arbitrarily created a Jewish homeland in the middle of what had been Arab controlled land for over a thousand years. You can't deny that either. It's still not very helpful when searching for solutions.

The highlighted part shows how little you understand and your hatred of Israel skews your posts.

It is an indisputable fact that Israel first sends flyers to the neighborhood they are about to hit. They then send a non-lethal explosion to show exactly what building is the target. Then and only then do they strike.

They do everything they can to mitigate civilian casualties. The main there are any civilian casualties is that Hamas is bunch of murderous thug pussies who use women and children ad human shields.

You constantly neglect each of these truths.

The Israeli Parliament is meeting to set up a cease fire.

Other than Afghanistan, who we are giving money to because we were waging a war and training their military so we can get out, Israel appears to have received almost as much aid for military expenditures as the rest of the world combined from the United States. We gave Israel 3.075 billion for military aid in 2012.

It is true that we gave Pakistan 1.2 billion in 2012, but nearly all of that was in the form of economic aid. Similarly, of the 1.9 billion we gave Iraq, only 1.3 billion was for military. We gave Egypt 1.3 billion. No other country got more than 300 million other than Jordan and only Russia, Somalia, and Colombia got more than $100 million.

So to recap from 2012, eight countries received at least $100 million in military aid from the U.S. and they are, in order:

1. Afghanistan - $9.5 billion (obvious aberration)
2. Israel - $3.075 billion
3. Egypt - $1.3 billion
4. Iraq - $1.1 billion
5. Jordan - $303 million
6. Somalia - $144 million
7. Russia - $101 million
8. Colombia - $100 million

We're giving a SUBSTANTIAL appropriation to Israel.

I absolutely do NOT hate Israel at all. Flyers five minutes before the bombings begin in a heavily and densely populated area doesn't do too much good now does it?

If you actually paid attention, you'd see that I said Bebe was a huge impediment to peace. His actions regarding settlements are wrong.

But the reality is Hamas still won't acknowledge Israel's right to exist. Neither will their sugar daddies in Tehran nor will other Arab countries.

Here's another set of numbers

I NEVER said we weren't giving a lot of money to Israel. It's just not the way you portray it.

i'm heading out to a meeting...this is why I won't be responding for a while.

Does this statement somehow not accurately portray the statement that the U.S. gives Israel billions of dollars a year in appropriations for military aid?

To me this ancient conflict basically comes down to this: all three of the major western religions all claim the same ancestral land, the same ancestral god, and they still can't get along!

As long as people are willing to die for metaphors, we will have such conflicts.

It may even be the same data I was using. They're both from USAID. I can't pull up the numbers from that website for some reason.

20% makes the US the Israeli military's sugar daddy.

Haha same thing my girlfriend said about it today when we were talking about this. I said nah, they'd find something else to argue about.

Why can't more people become Mormon and believe the holy land is some shit hole place in Missouri instead of some shit hole place in the middle east.

There was an Israel thousands of years ago. There's never been a "Palestinian State".

You're position is predicated on something that never existed.

There weren't nation states as we know them today thousands of years ago. Believing what's written the Torah as literal and applicable is awful similar to what a lot of the Christian conservatives on here do, just FYI.

Likewise and contrary to what a lot of donks believe, there was relatively peaceful coexistence between Jewish utopian socialists, urban Jews and Palestinians prior to World War II on the territory now known as Israel.
