Spent a lot of time with the new YACHT record and the new Black Lips record this weekend. The new YACHT record is super, super boss.

The new YACHT is conceptually over my head, but musically amazing.

whaaa.. dispatch is back together? Time to revisit High School.

Saw them live last night. It was so collegey but also a ridic show. The most enthusiastic crowd I've ever seen at a concert. Also the guy next to me was passing around a bowl with some really potent ish in it. MONTE

Sometimes I forget about this little 4-track side project from Chris Robinson and Marc Ford and some dudes from Jellyfish... Go many months without listening to it. But then I hear this song again and remember how goddamn good it is. Maybe my favorite song of all time, definitely a contender for that spot.

cool song rawarr. for whatever reason, i wasn't in the country mood today, but i saved the playlists for tomorrow. listening to Jill Scott this morning made me listen to Erykah Badu, which made me listen to Outkast, which made me listen to Lupe. It was a good musical day at work.

Lasers might be the most disappointing album I've listened to in my life.

Dude, I know.

I did Food & Liquor > The Cool today and then just contemplated Lasers before calling it a day and hanging up the headphones.

What's disappointing almost more than the music itself is the story behind the shit.

Went to see the Dodos last night. Way harder and way more distortion than I was expecting (well, there wasn't much really, but I was expecting none), but they rocked. They're talented. Wish they would have played a longer set though and more of their older stuff, though I appreciate they probably don't want to and have moved on musically. For instance, some people were requesting Ashley enthusiastically and finally he was like, sorry I don't even remember how to play that one.

Forgot you were going to see them; I'm glad we can compare experiences.

I wish the show I saw had been longer too. It was honestly a 55 minute set, but they really played the whole time without stopping at all. they only talked maybe twice: once to comment on this girl in the front screaming "Walking!" by saying that they planned to play the same exact setlist as they played the night before at Bowery (lol); once at the end when they said "man brooklyn, you look good."

Also, they started with 3 straight songs from No Color, and then really switched it up a lot between old and new songs from then on, which was awesome. If they had played longer, I would have liked to have heard "Don't Stop" or one of the new ones with Neko Case, but I understand it's hard to do without her. That and more old stuff.

Another thing I noticed was that the third bro they have there looked far too disinterested by comparison. While drummer and guitar/vocals are rocking out, he's pretty much just standing there. Still, all in all, they sounded really great. They're a lot of fun.

Hahaha, so true on the third bro. Always heard of them being a band of two, seems like he's just there to play backup on tour. And he didn't seem at all excited about that.

Started with 3 No Color songs at this show too, then started varying it a bit, but I don't think they played a single song from their first album, which is my favorite overall, though just slightly. They did play Winter though, and I was really pumped about that.

They actually chatted a bit at our show, but it was mostly to ask the score of the NBA finals game was every 20 mins or so. And to ask if since we're on the East Coast we like the Heat (loud boos from everyone in the crowd to his satisfaction). I'd say it lasted an hour and 10 mins or so, but 5 mins of that was wasted on waiting for the encore. I'm sick of the encore phenomenon, but that's an unrelated point. They should definitely play longer.

And to the previous point, they rocked out a lot harder than they do in the studio and I'm not sure which I enjoy better. Depends on the mood I guess, but I think I'd rather have it more intimate like their album pieces and less extended instrumentation, but I enjoy both.

OFY. I love all of those songs.

Here's the only other one I could find online:

The guy on the keyboards also did a lot of work with Beck.

I saw the Dodos open for New Pornographers last summer (the summer before?) and I thought they stole the show. Third bro was definitely jamming and into it during that set, though. I just put on the album the other day and it still sounded great.

I will have to check out that Black Crowes side project that involves members of Jellyfish.

Any Joe Jackson fans? People probably know Is She Really Going Out With Him and Steppin' Out (two badass songs), but I just listened to the I'm The Man album and it is great.

Damn, I love when I get turned on to shit like that. Great energy, got some of this post-punk sneer that the Clash, Elvis and early Police had, but it is really smart, quirky songwriting, some scratchy ska-skank groove, and melodica! Yes, lots of melodica*!!!

*melodica not represented in my two examples

Yellow Ostrich signed with Barsuk Records. Awesome for them, and pretty impressive with some good company, but I guess this was their big news.

The Mistress is being re-released yada yada. I'll take another record thanks. They seem to have plenty of new songs.

sweeeeeeet. good news. FTR, the company they're joining includes Dismemberment Plan, Menomena, Ra Ra Riot, et al.

really good stuff.

Among many others, such as David Bazan and Mates of State. I think they are/were Death Cab's original label. Pretty prestigious label to sign with, as far as indie labels go.

Also, I listened to Mescalito today at work, and will work through more Bingham tomorrow. Like what I've heard so far, especially Boracho Station.

Got my hands on a couple shows in Europe that he did early on. Acoustic with some french dude playing the dobro... The French dude overplays on some songs, but in one of the shows he covers this song.

Every once in a while you come across a song that's just about perfect. Then you go through things in life that relate, and it becomes even more perfect.
