Official 2014 Ryder Cup Thread

Need a refresher on Westwood in '08. My Euro hate is not where it needs to be.

The post final round press conference for the Euros in 2012 is a thing of beauty. They were all hammered

Did anyone see the Poulter/Jordan story on the golf channel, or heard about it otherwise? Hilarious. Apparently Jordan started talking trash to Poulter and even bumped him once or twice on the back-nine Saturday at Medinah, and Poulter reeled off 5 straight birdies to close (and win) the match (which proved pivotal).

Listening to Bubba's press conference now. He has that happy excited look that usually means he likes the course and is about to play really well. Had he started up with his bitching and moaning about the course already (like he did at Pinehurst) you could pretty much write him off.

Fuck, Jimenez is cool.

Whoa, sounds like Reed will be paired with Furyk in alternate shot on Friday, as will Johnson and Mahan.

That lines up with the foursomes that tincup listed for the practice round earlier today. Pods?

Kuchar just said he will be paired with Spieth on Friday.

Interesting that this Ryder Cup is being played in Europe but is on a very American golf course. Nicklaus design, parkland style, green and lush, shallow American style bunkers...

Shortest course in a long while as well at under 7,300 yards. Apparently a very easy putting course. Probably gives us a better chance than a pure links course.

And 3 of the par 5's are under 520. Should see plenty of birdies and eagles this week.

Listened to the press conferences while working today and the US guys basically gave away some of the Friday pairings already.

Reed said that he was told he will be paired with Furyk and Johnson with Mahan.
Kuchar said he will be paired with Spieth.

Given that below were the 3 practice groups today, it looks like Tom Watson is going with a pod system.
Kuchar, Spieth, Simpson, Watson
Furyk, ZJ, Mahan, Reed
Bradley, Mickelson, Fowler, Walker

Pretty easy to deduce that Simpson/Watson, Bradley/Mickelson, Walker/Fowler are the other pairings we will see on Friday if the above info is true.

First session on Friday is fourballs and my guess is we see the following 4 groups go out:
Watson/Simpson
Bradley/Mickelson
Fowler/Walker
Johnson/Mahan

And in the afternoon:
Bradley/Mickelson
Furyk/Reed
Kuchar/Spieth
Fowler/Walker

Of course this all could be a big smoke screen by Watson, but he doesn't strike me as the sneaky type. I think he's saying "here's what we are bringing....see if you can beat it."

When was the last time the Ryder Cup was played on a non-American-style course over there? Fortunately they have left the godawful Belfry. Valderrama, K Club, and Celtic Manor were parkland-style as well. I guess it has something to do with the Euro Tour's ownership or interest in certain venues, but it would be nice to see the Ryder Cup at a top course for once, as we usually try to do in the States.

I get so sick of these pampered whiny ass, capitalists that represent America in the Ryder Cup. Personally I've loved watching "us" get our asses handed to us by the Euros and hope it continues this year. I mean just look at the Watson's, you got one Watson that's the caption who's an ex-drunk and adulterer and another Watson thats a whiny ass prick masquerding as a bible thumper, pathetic.

Not so sure about Gleneagles helping us more than the Euros. We have some guys who have fared quite well at the Open Championship and are or have become good links style players, Mickelson 1st and foremost. And it's not like this Euro team are a bunch of links specialists. A short parkland course has got to be better for Poulter, and Rory should eat this place up, especially with some rain in the forecast. Rory loves throwing darts on wet courses and has yet to win a big event that was playing really hard and fast. I'm not so sure Rory wins at Liverpool this year had it been the dried out Liverpool when Tiger won. In fact, I can't think of a single Euro playing this year who'd be more comfortable on a links course than a parkland course. Maybe Bjorn? Haven't seen enough of Gallacher to know his game. Guys like GMac, Rose, Westwood and Sergio would prolly be fine on either. But I think Rory, Kaymer, Stenson and Poulter are much happier not on links. Add to that Gleneagles is a course where they've played a regular Euro stop. So most all their guys have played competitive rounds there whereas few of our guys have.
