Official 2014 Ryder Cup Thread

Webb has been a bit erratic, mainly due to the driver. His medium to short game remains strong. He has experience in International team events, plays well with Bubba and has proven that he can play with the best (15th in Ryder Cup points, currently 13th in Fed Ex points). Plus who else you going to pick? Keegan should be a lock but not too many others killing it right now who are not already on the team.

With Tiger not on the team, who is going to force Zach Johnson to watch porn?

That story is hilarious. Both Tiger and Rory were pretty funny on Fallon last night.

Tiger was none too pleased about some of Rory's comments. PTI showed the video yesterday and Tiger's ire was visible. Not sure if Rory meant it the way it sounded but it sure seemed like a shot across the bow. And unlike years past, I don't know how much Tiger can do about it now.

I'm sure he didn't love the past tense stuff, but he was joking throughout. He even made fun of his own play this year.

Easy to forget that over the past 2 seasons, Rory's played 29 PGA Tour events and won 3 of them. Tiger's played 23 events and won 5 of them. Rory's right to note that the most amazing thing about Tiger wasn't that he was dominant - it was how long he was dominant. Both got to 4 majors by age 25, but Rory's been far more up-and-down so far in his career, and half of those majors came in the past 2 months.

I like just about everything about Rory more than I do Tiger Woods, just not sure Tiger's done. I do think it'd be great for the game to have 2 stars playing great golf at the same time for once.

Yeah, I was only referring to the "heartfelt" moment and past-tense stuff. Good natured but Tiger didn't seem warm and fuzzy. I agree with the notion of having stars playing but I like more than 2. I love seeing a tourney on Sunday with 4-5 guys with legit shots making the turn. But Tiger's status is very much in question. Who knows, he could take time and come back like a bulldozer. Or we could be seeing the start of a long slide.

I hate Tiger and I'm pretty certain he's not done. He still won 5 times in 2013 with a golf swing that seemed far off from his peak years. He's never going to overpower courses the way he used to, but he's still got enough game and stones under pressure to keep winning, even if it's not at a ridiculous 5-6 wins per year clip.

Miss that pin and he probably had a Masters last year as well. Have to think he'll be a contender there for at least 5 more years - he's finished in the top five in 7 of his last 9 Masters appearances. Even when he starts fading in the other majors, Augusta alone might get him to 18.

Not just Augusta, but the Open Championship as well. Especially if it's hard and fast. If it's wet and holding, gimme Rory every time. But yeah, I don't see Tiger doing as well at a US Open or PGA unless he really straightens out his driver.

Eh, the stats don't really agree. Since his last win in 2006 he has only 1 top 5 in the Open. During that same time frame he only finished outside the top 6 in the Masters once.

So why exactly do so many of you guys actually get ticked off when networks give Tiger coverage during a bad round?

He used to be the best wind player in the world, and now he's merely average.

Yeah and I think that's something that he could get back. At least with his irons.

Cheese, I don't hate Tiger, but I certainly don't like him. But I do find it irritating when a network is showing him all of the time when he's playing poorly instead of showing the leaders.

It is annoying but I understand they do it because that is who the casual fans want to see...

I do think it is weird how, when one of the leaders in the final group or two starts playing bad and falls out of the lead they completely stop showing him. I think it was the PGA this year where the 'other' guy in the final group fell out of contention and all of a sudden it was like he didn't exist. They must have tried really hard not to show him at all! I wouldn't mind seeing some bad shots, personally.

He was drilling that red 5 wood last year when he was playing well. There was a ton of talk about how he'd gotten control over the stinger again and it was helping him win.

Then he lost it again. Still can't believe he's sticking with Foley. His old stinger for comparison... Outcome is basically identical, but his old swing seemed so much more fluid and less mechanical.

This take rang pretty true to me... I don't buy that he needs to go back to Butch, but it's hard to imagine Foley's model approach working for him long term.

Dufner is not in the field this week.

Kuchar is.

Awesome. Kuchar is a money match play guy, really need him healthy. In 13 team matches (Presidents and Ryder Cup combined) he's only had 3 losses and all 3 were only 1 up. His WGC record is nuts, 17-4.
