Official thread about the movie you just saw

Saw The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard which was fun but not awesome. I thought Hitman's Bodyguard was better (though also not amazing), but both are just campy fun shoot-em-ups.

Watched Gunpowder Milkshake last night and really enjoyed it. Best way I can describe it is a female version of John Wick if it was directed by Wes Anderson. It was just fun and easy to watch.

This one is kind of embarrassing, but at my wife's request we watched the new Cinderella last night. Woof. This is legit one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I've watched stupid Hallmark Christmas movies that were better. I'm sure some of you have kids that will want to see it, and if you can avoid sitting through this with them I would highly recommend doing so. It was just brutal.

No way! The marketing really made Cinderella look so appealing, especially that scamp James Cordon.

watched Homeward Bound with my daughter the other night. Movie holds up. The human actors are classic disney bad but I'm pretty amazed at how well the VO work meshes with real animal action.

While I hadn't seen any promos about it, I defs wasn't expecting something great. But this was far worse than I thought it would be. And Cordon was only in it fairly briefly, so I can't even put this on him. Everything about it was shit, from the singing and dancing to the writing and acting. And the fact that people keep letting Pierce Brosnan sing is a war crime.

Hahaha... We watched that a couple of months ago with my kids. I had never seen it, but it was a staple of my wife's childhood. Yeah, it wasn't terrible.

So then we started the 2nd one and never finished it. Not sure why, as it was basically the same film just set in San Francisco (and without the deceased Don Ameche).

We've gotten into the original Scooby Doo episodes on HBO Max (after watching "Scoob!", which also wasn't terrible). It's weird to hear my 5 and 7 year old daughters singing the Scooby Doo theme song and saying things like, "If it weren't for you meddling kids!"

I saw Malignant. I hadn't seen a James Wan horror movie before but I had to see it after watching the first 3 minutes of the Red Letter Media review, where they claim Wan is intentionally trolling in a "Freddy Got Fingered"-esque way. I don't care for the horror genre generally but this is just a stupid, stupid movie even taking account the suspensions I grant for them. It is hilariously stupid so I say watch it, at least on HBO.

Did not like Malignant because I don’t like campy/silly horror films. I think a lot of James Wans writing and directorial choices detract from his films. For example, why are the paranormal investigators in the Insidious films so goofy? His films are much too atonal and disjointed for my taste. There’s no real credible sense of dread.

My favorite horror films this year have been: The Vigil, In The Earth, Candy Man, and the Fear Street Trilogy

Loved Malignant. Just batshit, gonzo, campy, silly horror with slick production. Wan is just letting loose completely and I fully appreciate it.

Insidious is my other favorite of his -- he's going for fun, entertaining horror and nails it.

I'll have to check out The Vigil and In the Earth. I hadn't heard of either.

Candyman was more of a sequel to the 1992 than it was a remake, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I liked the concept, but thought that Fear Street was a bit of a mess overall. I enjoyed the first installment and the third one is good enough to justify sitting through the second, which I thought was actually pretty bad. It's a good cast and they nail the particular genre aesthetics for each period, but there's really not enough content for three full length movies.

It technically came out in 2020, but I saw His House for the first time last week and loved it. It was a fresh take on the "haunted house" genre.

the second fear street was why I didn't watch the third but I guess I should keep going

watched Queenpins last night. Not haute cinema, but a fun, silly watch.

The Many Saints of Newark sucked. I wanted it to be good but just wasn't. It was a mess. They should have let The Sopranos be.

many saints of newark indeed sucked

no time to die is gonna be a meh from me dawg

I wanted No Time to Die to be good but the runtime alone was a major turnoff. Def feel like Craig was the best Bond though. Skyfall was my personal favorite.

No spoilers on Bond, please. Really need to see it. Agree though that Skyfall is an all-timer, Casino good, but Spectre very middle-of-the-road, and Quantum one of the worst ever. I'm not a fan of Craig as Bond. I don't think he's bad. He's just humorless. You don't need to be flippant like Roger Moore, but Craig makes Timothy Dalton seem like Bill fucking Burr.
