GA Voter suppression

I loved the comment from Gov. Deal, the latest in a long line of OWG right-wingers: “I don’t think anything that has to do with elections should be tilted one way or the other for partisan purposes.”

It's just so embarrassing when a politician just doesn't even try to hide his own hypocrisy.

Nothing in there says anything about voter impersonation or closing polls. But don't let that get in the way of keeping poor, people and black people from voting.

93, why don't you address the specifics in the link I provided? Oh, because it shows the GA GOP actively trying to make it harder for Georgians to vote.

Honestly, this idea is ridiculous. I'd rather go the Oregon route, send everyone absentee ballots in the State.

What has been proven is that voter impersonation at the polls (which is what the ID laws are supposed to stop) only happened 31 times out of over 1BILLION votes that were cast.

Yet in the low turnout North Carolina primaries, 454 people were denied their right to vote.

Kemp’s critics question his ties to proposed poll closures in Randolph County

The idea to close polling locations in majority black areas and blame ADA requirements is being shopped around by a consultant with connections to Republican nominee for governor and current Secretary of State Brian Kemp. His presentation had a slide indicating that the plan was supported by Kemp, who is trying to distance himself after the backlash.

The consultant, Mike Malone, presented a slide to county residents at two “courtesy” meetings last week addressing the changes that included these lines he read aloud about the plan to reduce polling sites:

Consolidation has come highly recommended by the Secretary of State and is already being adopted by several counties and is being seriously considered and being worked on by many more.

Slate claims that 10 other counties have closed polling locations on advice from the same consultant.

Georgia County Can’t Back Up Its Excuse For Plan To Disenfranchise Black Voters

“There is no document, report or analysis studying the handicap accessibility of polling places in Randolph County and the cost of fixing them within the time frame specified in your open records request,” Hayden Hooks, an attorney with the firm Perry & Walters, which represents Randolph County, wrote in an email. The county has no record of such a document in the past year, Hooks added.
