Bryant Crawford is coming down to Wake this Friday for the B&G Madness event. Hope that the WCA trio gets on campus too.

2016 guard Kyle Guy (#50 in 247 Composite) committed to UVA. If Tony Bennett can get top 100 guys on the regular, hoo boy.

There's no question Tony Bennett can win a lot of games. The problem is his style requires his team to play nearly perfectly every game. The slower you play. The less margin of error you have.

It's a great way to win with less talent. It's not a great way to move to the top consistently.

He's a better version of Dave Odom.

I don't know if that's true anymore. College basketball, at least at the top, appears to be trending slower.

The past 5 champions had an average adjusted tempo of 65.7. (In other words if they were playing the team with the average tempo the game would have 65.7 possessions per team). The previous 8 champions had an average adjusted tempo of 70.9.

Last year 9 of Kenpom's top 10 had adj. tempo's that were less than 66. Only two teams in the top 25 had tempo's above 70.

In 2004, all but 3 teams in the top 10 had adj. tempo's greater than 66. And 7 teams (including WF) in the top 25 had tempo's greater than 70.

If the rest of college basketball continues to move towards Bennett's preferred pace (he's been consistently around 60-61 his whole career) then the reduced margin of error you have playing at a slower pace becomes less of a big deal.

Hey, what's wrong with Manning and our coaching staff? No recruits in like ten days! Color me worried.

it's actually closer to 7% when looking at Bennet's avg. at UVA (61.3) and the average of past 5 champions (65.7)

That's still significant, but far more manageable than being 15% slower

Results (scoring) count much more than some abstract theory of tempo. If one team scores 65 ppg and other Top 10 teams score 73-82 ppg, kids will want to play for a higher scoring team.

I didn't know Bennett had won 2 ACC Chamionships yet. Or 3 NIT titles. Or produced teams which never finished lower than 8-8 in the ACC after his first year

Virginia had the 21st best offense in the country last year. When they had the ball they scored more often than all but 20 teams in the country. They got the right Results (wins) 30 out of 37 times.

ppg is a horrible predictor of what will happen when two teams play each other.
