Danny Manning Credibility Watch

Not sure this team is coachable. They have a great game, like GaTech, then return to the same old shit against State. Too many TOs and way to many 3's. No hustle and no defense. It has been the same old story all year. They just have made zero progress. I am sure Danny does not coach TOs and wild ass 3's

Just because a team is not well coached does not mean the players are uncoachable. Personally, I have not met uncoachable players. Maybe someone with a really bad back ground??

Look at State for the results of a better coach. Less talent, more wins.

Wrangor, you are likely a better judge. How often do you run into uncoachable players?

The reality is Craw is our only ballhandler. Chill panics when doubled and even worse he stops moving which is the worst thing you can do. Besides getting tied up, he makes passes to the wrong people and to those who are in bad positions to get the ball.

I'm kinds surprised more teams don't press us with a defense that prevents Craw from getting the ball.

Like State did resulting in Mitchell having to bring the ball up the floor?

NC State has less talent than us? Freeman wasn't highly recruited but he's a 5th year senior and Beverly is a stop-gap, but Dorn was CUSA freshman of the year before transferring and spending a year practicing with Dennis Smith Jr, Yurtseven and Batts were #1 in their state, 4 star guys, Johnson was top 50 4 star.

Chaundee and Doral are the only 2 players we have that would be comparable to most of their players. Guys like Wilbekin, Sarr, Thompson, Mitchell, Melo, Woods - all are below their talent and we've red-shirted nobody.

Dorn and Woods transferred at the same time. Sarr and Yurtseven are both 4 star foreign centers. State is making duen with 2 fifth year transfers, and 2 frosh rated 96 and 215 in the rsci. From a team that sucked out loud last year.

Yurtseven was 5* on Rivals and other places. He was projected in the first round of the NBA draft before his frosh year. Many were surprised he even went college. He was more highly regarded than Sarr.

Dorn was far better than Woods when he transferred, and it's pretty ridiculous to lump Sarr and Yurtseven as equally ranked. Sarr was 200's nationally with a Vandy offer, Yurtseven had Syracuse, Utah, and pro contract offers, was top 50 nationally in various rankings, and had an NBA 2017 draft profile. They have 5th year players, we have one true senior who was barely top 300.

They sucked out loud last year with now NBA star Dennis Smith Jr. on their squad.

In other words, they're more talented than our current squad and more experienced. Both teams lost an NBA-quality player and we made the tourney, they didn't - despite having similar talent around that player. If you give us back Dinos and take away Yurtseven, you'd probably have opposite records.

Regardless, painting them as some talentless mess that is being brilliantly coached is just a bit much. ACC-wise they're a couple wins better than most would have guessed while we're a couple of wins worse. Defensively they're deep in the 200's just like we are. Maybe they'll have a first-four-and-out experience like we did last year. Just seems odd that Wake fans want to prop them up so much.

No shit, fat man.

So in a down year in the ACC, you expected we'd be 5-10 at this juncture instead of 3-12? Lofty goals.

And you think Dinos coming back would have us at 18-9 and not 10-17?

Exactly. In 11 months Keatts has put together a better roster than Manning has had 4 years to build.

ACC media preseason- Wake 11th, NCSU 12th. Current, Wake 14th, NCSU- 7th.

Guess nobody else saw the talent advantage you were astute enough to notice.

I think I had us pegged as NIT/bubble without Collins. Dinos leaving meant we'd be hugely dependent on 2 complete unknowns in Thompson and Sarr. If one of them panned out I thought we could still make the NIT. Neither have, although Sarr has plenty of potential.

Wake went from 2 ACC wins a couple years ago to 9 wins and an NCAA bid the following year. We've only lost 3 ACC games by more than 10 points despite a brutal schedule. So yeah, I think Dinos was that valuable when you look at the complete void of production that replaced him. It's certainly realistic to think we've spotted teams about 10 points just at the 4 spot in a bunch of games this year. Probably most of our games this year. And that's assuming Dinos didn't improve even when he battled a shoulder for much of last season.

“They sucked last year with DSJ. Man, they’re talented.”

What?

Difference between 7th and 11th is a single win. Again, heap the praises if you want. They're a couple wins better than expected. You're talking about them as if they're an NCAA lock and top 5 in the ACC.

Not lofty goals, realistic projections.

Dinos coming back would have made a big difference. I'm not sure 18-9, but 15/16 wins is logical.

Ha. This thread is basically discussion between two groups: Those that think we have talent similar to state but manning can't coach, and those who think we have shite players who can't be coached. So it sounds like 100% of posters agree that Danny Manning is a shitty coach, we're just trying to decide what exactly he's shit at. I propose both groups are right and he sucks at coaching and recruiting.
