Heads up: Potential government shutdown

Will they go with “Crippled Tammy” or something more subtle?

Republicans love talkers more than doers. Talk about military service. Vote for people who ducked it. Talk about bootstraps. Vote for rich kids and vote against people who grew up poor.

I fully expect "Crippled Tammy", followed by an accusation that she was injured because she was a woman in combat, and therefore unfit and putting the men in danger with her presence. The rubes will call this pro-military.

It’s ridiculous that republicans don’t understand why “good faith” promises of immigration voting in the future isn’t working. You have failed, lied and broken too many promises in the past for there to be trust that’s actually going to occur. If a full budget is passed before immigration is done there is no leverage till the next budget.

Also because the reason they are making the promises is to literally break them.

Party of Trump indeed.

If the GOP says they’re going to do something with a March deadline, why not hold them to doing it now.

Yeah how’s that Obamacare fix coming for Susan Collins? Oh is CHIP a big problem now, what about the prior four months you didn’t do shit about it.

Why not just be honest about it. You control all of Washington DC. Do whatever you want. Just know there will elections.

Top Republican Shoots Down Tentative Shutdown Deal

JOSHUA ROBERTS/REUTERS
A top Senate Republican leader on Sunday dismissed the contours of a tentative bipartisan proposal aimed at re-opening the federal government before Monday morning. The plan, described to The Daily Beast by Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), would offer Democrats a commitment to begin formal debate on an immigration bill before Feb. 8—the same day government funding expires again under the stopgap spending bill that the Senate will consider at 1 a.m. Monday morning. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) quickly shot down the idea, saying it plays into the Democrats’ hands. “We’re more than happy to have a vote on it well before the deadline,” Cornyn said. “Turning the agenda over to Democrats who just shut down the government makes no sense to me. It just seems like it encourages bad behavior.” Both sides remained at a stalemate over the weekend as Republicans said immigration-related negotiations would not resume until Democrats vote to re-open the government, while Democrats are seeking assurances on legislation that would codify legal protections for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

Lindsey Graham Rips White House Adviser Stephen Miller Over Immigration Fight

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) targeted White House policy adviser Stephen Miller as an unproductive force in the immigration fight that has been at the center of the government shutdown debate. “As long as Stephen Miller is in charge of negotiating immigration, we are going nowhere,” Graham said to reporters. Graham noted that President Trump’s “heart is right on this issue,” but said that Miller’s restrictive immigration views have “never been in the mainstream in the Senate” and has made him “an outlier for years.”

This tweet is ridiculous on so many levels.

Vote at noon for a three week deal with a pinky swear from McConnell that he'll bring an immigration bill for a vote... sometime. Probably. Basically the same thing he said last month, when he said he'd call for a vote in January. Flake and Graham are falling in line, which means they'll need to flip seven Dem votes.

Look at this meaningless nonsense:

On the Senate floor Sunday night, while proposing to keep the government open through February 8, McConnell gave some idea of what he was willing to guarantee.

“Should these issues not be resolved by the time the funding bill before us expires on February 8, 2018, assuming the government remains open,” he said on Sunday, “it would be my intention to proceed to legislation that would address DACA, border security, and other issues.”

Looks like Senate Dems are backing a short term spending bill.
