Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Shades of the 1850s leading up to the Civil War when members of Congress carried pistols and waved knives at each other during debates over slavery, and abolitionist Sen. Charles Sumner was literally nearly beaten to death by a proslavery South Carolina Congressman, Preston Brooks, with his cane. Brooks broke the cane beating Sumner, afterwards Southerners sent him hundreds more canes with which to beat other Yankee abolitionist congressmen. What is past is prologue, I guess.

At least he got a tunnel everyone hates for his efforts.

That seems promising until you ask a key question: Who are the experts? Someone may be unsure until they talk to a friend or a pastor with very strong opinions. Or they see or read an "expert" pundit on Fox News or Breitbart. This paper doesn't seem to offer a cure. It explains how right-wing people become susceptible to propaganda in the first place. They get into an argument that exposes their ignorance. They find someone willing to give them a very certain answer. That locks in their opinion. So next time they get into that same argument, they can link something they read on lifesitenews.org and feel superior.

Amanda Carpenter is legit. Hard to believe she worked for Cruz when she writes stuff like this:

“Knowing this dynamic within the GOP, it’s no wonder that (to name just one ambitious pol) Sen. Ted Cruz has adopted the posture of an online Twitter troll instead of the constitutional scholar-turned-statesman of the most Republican of the big states. One doesn’t amass a rabid grassroots following by passing bipartisan legislation, delivering on constituent services, or even acting to protect the homeland during a pandemic. The demands of leading and governing in the public interest have never meshed well with the demands of winning and keeping office, but they have never before been so contradictory.”

The GA Secretary of State was on ABC's This Week today, and while he said that "his guy" (Trump) had lost the election in GA, and that the election was legitimate and secure, and while he admitted that he had received death threats, he also went out of his way to defend Republicans. When it was pointed out that both GA GOP Senate candidates had called on him to resign for holding a fraudulent election, he smiled and said that he was still voting for both of them and that "he wished them well", even though he also said that he wasn't resigning.

On Meet the Press the GA Voting Systems Manager (a Republican Trump voter) who decried the death threats and behavior of Trumpites at his press conference last week, said that he thought that Perdue and Loeffler had been "forced" by Trump to call for the GA Secretary of State's resignation. He said that he was "disappointed" by their truckling to Trump and their refusal to condemn the threats made against GA election workers like himself, but then said that he was still voting for both of them because it was important for the GOP to keep control of the Senate.

So there you go - you see that your party's Senate candidates are spineless worms who call for your resignation and claim that the election process you were in charge of was rigged against your party (presumably by you), you and your family are getting death threats which these Senate candidates will not condemn, but you're still going to vote for them because what's good for the party is all that matters. Great going, guys!

Cult.

Your party occupying the high ground everyone!

"It's the principle of the whole thing. There's principalities in this."

The leopards are literally (by modern standards) eating their faces and both Georgia officials keep supporting the senate candidates.
