Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

The virulent racism of the GOP at today's hearing shows how ingrained Trump's justifications for racism have become. They aren't even pretended to hide their hate and racism.

Unless the RNC shows some leadership and conscience, the GOP will soon become (if it hasn't already) the party of the KKK and white supremacy.

Dems need to make this a major issue in 22 and 24. They shouldn't pull any punches. But they won't do this as they are too weak.

Of course the GQP is the party of racists and white supremacy. Thats not to say every republican is racist but every republican looks the other way while accepting racist and white supremacist votes for their side. Those r's and ws's aren't voting for a democRAT ever. Complicit republicans should take a moment to let that sink in.

Make everyone who hasn't denounced Green, Trump, Roy, Gohmert, etc. their twin brother/sister like the RNC does about AOC and Pelosi. If they haven't stood up against them, voted against validating the election, voted against Covid relief, time to get down and REALLY, REALLY dirty.

It's not the RNC that did that to AOC and Pelosi...it was afox News. What you're asking is for MSNBC and CNN to start doing it to Pubs, but their hands are ties because they have bought into the narrative that they need to toe the line on being biased.

The RNC uses Fox News and Republican candidates did this as well. Dems don't have the courage to do it. Dems will cut some orange slices and whine about losing their lunch money.

NED hasn't been very active lately on the "family separation at the border" thread. What gives?

Is he in hiding with his buddies Steve Schmidt and Rick Wilson?

Cawthorn was criticizing a new $86.9 million federal contract to house some migrant families in hotel rooms as they await legal proceedings to remove them from the US. (Other migrant families are being swiftly expelled without a court process.)

"The Biden Admin just dropped $86 Million dollars to get hotel rooms for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS yet we have zero dollars going to our homeless veterans who are at a high risk of suicide. UNACCEPTABLE. UNAMERICAN," Cawthorn wrote.

Facts First: Cawthorn was not even close to correct about federal spending on homeless veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs will spend "more than $2 billion" in the 2021 fiscal year "supporting Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness," department spokesman Terrence Hayes said in an email. The American Rescue Plan pandemic relief law President Joe Biden signed this month -- which Cawthorn voted against -- itself provides significant funding to address housing insecurity, both in general and among veterans in particular.

Etc.

Facts don’t matter to today’s “conservatives”.

Just misinformed and disinformed passion!

I was expecting bullshit, I was not necessarily expecting the bullshit to be lifted from old facebook memes that the dumbest MAGAts on your feed were sharing.

From that thread...

For those posters who argued back in November and December that the GOP would turn on Trump once he was defeated, this Politico story should put that argument to rest. Trump held a fundraiser to raise money for a candidate to oppose GOP Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, who was one of the 10 House Republicans who dared to vote for his impeachment.

Trump "invited" all 4 of the top Ohio Republicans running for the Senate seat there in 2022 to a unscheduled private meeting. There he forced them to more or less audition for him to earn his endorsement for next year's Ohio GOP primary.

"It was a scene right out of "The Apprentice." Before the dinner began, the former president had some business to take care of: He summoned four Republican Senate candidates vying for Ohio’s open Senate seat for a backroom meeting. What ensued was a 15-minute backroom backbiting session reminiscent of Trump’s reality TV show...The scene illustrated what has become a central dynamic in the nascent 2022 race. In virtually every Republican primary, candidates are jockeying, auditioning and fighting for the former president’s backing. And the former president, as was so often the case during his presidency, has seemed to relish pitting people against one another.

One person familiar with what transpired in Wednesday evening’s huddle described it as “Hunger Games,” an awkward showdown that none of them were expecting. Making matters even more uncomfortable, this person said, was that the rival candidates sat at a circular table, making it so that each had to face the others. Multiple people familiar with what transpired during the meeting said most of the tension seemed to be between Timken and Mandel, and that it appeared they were trying to outdo one another. According to one account, Mandel added that he was “crushing” Timken in the early polling. Timken laughed off the broadside, insisting that her internal polling showed her in a strong early position.

The former president indicated that he was aware of surveys showing Mandel ahead. But at one point, he asked if the former state treasurer was fully committed to the contest — an apparent reference to Mandel’s decision to withdraw from the 2018 Senate race, which at the time he attributed to his problems with his wife’s health. Mandel responded: “Mr. President I only know two ways to do things: either not at all, or balls to the wall. I hired a bunch of killers on my team. I’m a killer, and we’re going to win the primary and then the general.”

So apparently the way to win a GOP Senate primary now is to endlessly kiss Dear Leader's ass while throwing shade on your opponents to their face in front of Dear Leader. And of course there is seemingly no end of candidates willing to endure such humiliating treatment for a chance at power. The Cult of Trump is indeed alive and well!
