Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Also wtf schools are teaching critical race theory? That's some high-level shit. It doesn't just mean thinking about race critically

Maybe like a curriculum informed by crt.

I read a random GOP newsletter from my hometown recently. According to the newsletter, local elementary students are now learning critical race theory. And the only way to stop it is to vote for GOP candidates for school board.

So their ban on crt is like their ban on sharia law.

Kind of. More like "bans" on socialism. They're taking everything they hate about understanding race and branded it "critical race theory" when actual critical race theory is something more narrow and different. It's just their new thing to be afraid of.

It just sounds scary and liberal.

It would be like if Republicans decided that because teachers assigned a book with a gay character schools need to stop teaching "queer theory". Because, like, it makes students gay!

Have they done that yet? I wouldn't be surprised if they had.

Remember the incoming freshman at duke that refused to read the graphic novel "Fun Home" because reading about a lesbian was against his religion.

Grassroots activism. They'll probably soon pivot back to Harry Potter teaching witchcraft.

A Murray teacher read a book about a transgender child to a class of third graders last month — which set off a backlash from parents. In response, the school district has now suspended a program aimed at introducing kids to more diverse and inclusive literature.

Stephen Miller?

You won't be surprised to learn that Stephen Miller is only one of many, many dukies

true, here's a good example of one: my best friend growing up went to duke (where he had always wanted to go, his dad went) and he turned into a full-on 9/11 truther and Ron Paul donk. he recently posted an Insta story showing a copy of the Duke Chronicle from his senior year where he screened some 9/11 truther doc and none other than Stephen Miller lead the protest against it.

said former friend is currently living in the middle of nowhere Oregon and is very anti-vax, masks, etc. funny since I one day randomly ran into him a couple of years ago at Mizu in Winston of all places (hadn't seen him since high school) and he was there because his wife was an anesthesiology resident at Wake.

Does his wife agree with his views?

No idea I’ve never met her nor knew he was even living in Winston. Last I knew he was in Durham.

Now they’ve got some farm in rural Oregon that he does a lot of Insta stories on and it looks quite pleasant. I assume she practices somewhere nearby? But he’s got plenty of guns he shows off and mixes in plenty of his crazy government mind control conspiracy shit.

So pretty strong odds he’s a Proud Boy or in one of those groups.

He must be thrilled to be living in a blue state, even if his part of Oregon is red. I wonder if he supports the recent proposal to have Idaho take over the eastern two-thirds of Oregon. LOL.

Wonder if he posted about it on Facebook, too?

It’s an Amazon best seller.

Yep you can click that link in the tweet right there to go to Amazon Dot Com to buy the book Big Tech doesn’t want you to read

Some media company must have published it and I’m sure they’re a corporation.

Whatever, it’s obvious bs. Hope he didn’t spend much time writing, the rubes will buy it just to have it but will never actually read the inside.
