Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Can't turn off too many pubs in congress because then impeachment becomes a real possibility. The democrats will use him for all he is worth but if presented any sliver of destroying him and getting him out of office they would jump at it.

If Pubs split on impeachment, the party won't recover. And no Pubs will move on impeachment unless Trump becomes much less popular.

Except he has the command of their voters. They turn on him, they lose.

Trump will not get impeached.

Will be curious to see if the Pubs try to take him down in the primary. That would be interesting.

Oh they'll try. They tried in 2016, too.

Who would run though? Losing a primary to Trump would be pretty detrimental to your political career.

Y'all really don't get that white conservatives still adore the man, and will turn on anyone who challenges him, do you? The GOP cannot defeat Trump. There isn't a viable path for them at all. He's their Frankenstein, and they are stuck with him.

No, I don't get "why," not "that."

Honestly, this article touches on a lot of reasons why. Fragile white masculinity is a factor. Anxiety over the decline of white evangelicalism is a factor. Pure greed is a factor. Lots of strands. Basically he's a talented salesmen to rubes, and there are a lot of rubes in the Republican Party.

I'd be shocked if at least two of the 16 who lost to him in 2016 don't run again. Kasich is a sure thing. Cruz if he wins in 2018. Most will just take their L and bitch from the sidelines. I'd throw Evan McMullin into the mix if he doesn't successfully run for Congress. I'm guessing another moderate governor will throw his hat into the ring as well.

Cruz would lose by more than he did in 2016 and his own crazies would turn on him.

OK, now I hope Cruz runs.

Broward GOP uncovers a nasty secret about its young party secretary

The Broward County Republicans are in turmoil today after revelations that a freshly elected member of their executive board is a man who once was charged with attempted murder in the savage claw-hammer beating of a then-classmate at a Los Angeles prep school for multi-millionaires’ children.

Four months after 28-year-old Rupert Tarsey was elected secretary, party officials have found out the young philanthropist and supporter of President Donald Trump is really Rupert Ditsworth.

And a decade ago, the then-Beverly Hills teenager was charged with attempted murder in Los Angeles after hitting Harvard-Westlake School classmate Elizabeth Barcay over the head at least 40 times, splitting her skull open.

------
Thing is, Tarsey says he was elected fair and square and has no plan to resign.

“Why should I resign,” he asked in an exclusive interview from his $2 million beachfront condo. “I did nothing wrong and I was elected. This is just party politics.”
....
“We were blindsided,” said Sutton, a schoolteacher. “He’s a member of the Knights of Columbus, for Christ’s sake. And he came highly recommended by the former chair. We had no idea what his background is. We want him out but he is refusing to resign. He deceived us. It looks like he even used a reputation management firm to make sure we wouldn’t find out who he is.”
....
"Tarsey, according to published reports, invited Barcay, the daughter of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, to ride with him to Jamba Juice after a big exam.

Tarsey eventually parked the car and allegedly pulled a hammer from a backpack. He then started hitting her over the head, opened the passenger’s door and pulled her out while choking her before driving away."

According to the Times, Tarsey’s parents rushed him into psychiatric treatment as Barcay recovered painfully and eventually attended the school prom in a wheelchair.

At first, California prosecutors filed the case in juvenile court, but it was dismissed. They tried it again in adult court.

“In the end, I pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor,” Tarsey said. “It’s not the charges that matter, it’s what happens in court.”

Tarsey, 6 feet 2 inches tall, claimed self-defense."

Not nearly as bad as Killary though. And her emails...

Nice work. That's 90 Republicans to run ads against saying they voted against Hurricane Harvey relief.

did we ever find out if Cruz's dad helped kill Kennedy? I am sure Trump will get to that.

Harvard-Westlake should be renamed Murder-Mayhem Prep. It's also the home of the infamous Billionaires Boys Club.
