Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Embracing Trumpism/White Supremacy/Sedition

By the way, I did check out his center. Out of about 60-70 people in leadership, the advisory board, students, and alumni (graduates who worked at the center as students) about a dozen pictures were missing, a dozen weren’t white, and two students, one undergraduate and one grad alumni were Black.

That good-hearted Republicans are such cowards as not to stand up to the yokels means if you support the GOP these days you tacitly support their core value of white supremacy.

Just absolutely no shame.

The political arm of House Republicans is deploying a prechecked box to enroll donors into repeating monthly donations — and using ominous language to warn them of the consequences if they opt out: “If you UNCHECK this box, we will have to tell Trump you’re a DEFECTOR.”

The language appears to be an effort by the National Republican Congressional Committee to increase its volume of recurring donations, which are highly lucrative, while invoking former President Donald J. Trump’s popularity with the conservative base. Those donors who do not proactively uncheck the box will have their credit cards billed or bank accounts deducted for donations every month.

The Onion’s Matt Gaetz stuff is fantastic.

Fucking idiots left their Venmo feeds public.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/gaetz-paid-accused-sex-trafficker-who-then-venmod-teen

In two late-night Venmo transactions in May 2018, Rep. Matt Gaetz sent his friend, the accused sex trafficker Joel Greenberg, $900. The next morning, over the course of eight minutes, Greenberg used the same app to send three young women varying sums of money. In total, the transactions amounted to $900.

The memo field for the first of Gaetz’s transactions to Greenberg was titled “Test.” In the second, the Florida GOP congressman wrote “hit up ___.” But instead of a blank, Gaetz wrote a nickname for one of the recipients. (The Daily Beast is not sharing that nickname because the teenager had only turned 18 less than six months before.) When Greenberg then made his Venmo payments to these three young women, he described the money as being for “Tuition,” “School,” and “School.”

We're going to have another Jan 6 moment aren't we? It's so gross the level of grift these people unapologetically engage in.

Oh, no doubt. It was no real surprise that the 1/6 attack took place, given everything we've seen and heard from Trumpites and Republicans generally since at least 2016 (really dating back to the 90s). I don't think there's much doubt that we'll see something similar within the next few years, and it will likely be even larger, much more violent, and centered on either DC again or maybe a state capitol somewhere. A good many Trumpites were privately thrilled by 1/6, and their only disappointment was that it wasn't even more destructive. A lot of Trump's base just want to burn it all down and start over, preferably with people like them controlling everything with the restart.

The Brooks Brother Riot was a precursor to Jan 6. It’s not hard to imagine something in between happening at a state or local election office in the aftermath of a close election.

As long as Republicans can get away with the cycle of fomenting hate, feigning outrage at the violence, then blaming the libs, nothing is going to stop.

So much for the notion of J.D. Vance of Hillbilly Elegy fame as some kind of eloquent, thoughtful and reasonable voice and guide to Trump's rural white supporters. Not that everyone fell for it, but a good number of East Coast media and establishment types did. Interesting what running in a GOP Senate primary in Ohio will do to a man.

But according to some conservatives Nikki Haley is the next great hope for the GOP. Turns out she's just another Trump lapdog. Watching all of these Republican wannabe "contenders" grovel for Trump's favor is quite illuminating.
