Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

It’s clear why Buckley and the National Review are revered among conservatives.

“William F. Buckley, who opposed the impeachment as a tactic against the Warren Court, nonetheless infamously wrote in 1957 that the “advanced” white race in the South was justified in taking “such measures as are necessary to prevail, politically and culturally,” in areas where “it does not predominate numerically.””

Yep. Mostly rings true.

...Trump is, in many ways, the ultimate embodiment of this long-standing tendency on the right. His transformation from New York Democrat to Republican Party celebrity began by embracing the birther conspiracy; he even took credit for Obama’s eventual decision to release his long-form birth certificate. As president, he has wondered aloud why Attorney General Jeff Sessions hasn’t personally defended him from the Russia investigation in the same way that, in Trump’s Fox News–fueled fantasies, Eric Holder once shielded Obama from “scandals” like “Fast and Furious.”

The idea that the left is depraved, corrupt, and ruthless has been an important strain of American conservatism since the movement began. But in the Trump era, it has metastasized. Right-wing policy ideas have been so thoroughly discredited—does anyone even argue anymore that trickle-down economics will ensure mass prosperity?—that the only apparent reason for conservatism’s existence is to fight back against evil liberals. This is, of course, not the sign of a healthy political movement. The right’s support for McCarthy has been a long-standing embarrassment for American conservatism. Its embrace of Trump may be history repeating itself.

Yep. Mostly rings true.

The Fox News website had an "opinion" piece just this past week playing up the very things this link discusses - the right-wing conviction that LibDems are engaged in a "war" for control of America and the American economy, that they have a sinister agenda ("The Obama Agenda") to socialize the country, that Trump's victory in 2016 only made the evil LibDems fight even harder to impose their values on the unwilling American majority, and that Republicans and all Real Americans need to wake up and fight LibDems tooth and nail until the "war" is won. Reading that article is like watching a carnival funhouse mirror version of their own agenda - Pat Buchanan first started talking about the culture wars way back in 1992, yet they claim it's all the Democrat's fault, like pretty much everything else.

Liberals didn’t even realize they were fighting a culture war until two years ago.

Through either naïveté or pure stupidity, Democrats have fought battles above board and in good faith despite the GOP never indicating they would fight on those terms.

Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Embracing Trumpism

Liberals thought we won the battles of the 1860s, 1910s, and 1960s. They didn’t realize Republicans are still fighting them. Compare the Republican Obama memes to the depiction of black politicians in Birth of a Nation. It’s horrifying.

Nah, I think they’ve known it since Mapplethorpe’s “Piss Christ” and the Sorbonne-led resurrection and rehabilitation of the Marquis De Sade.

Try Roger Shattuck’s illuminating “Forbidden Knowledge: From Prometheus to Pornography”

It will be some necessary grad work that you clearly missed.

Look at the Leftist Nazi’s..banning free expression.

Progressivism is a foul joke played on soft minds lacking the ability to question today’s serving of tripe-filled innuendo by unnamed accusers

Just a bunch of coincidences I'm sure. In the words of some Evangelical leaders, we've not had a more Christian president.
