Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

They're angry because liberals still exist and haven't been exterminated yet, and gay marriages are still legal and gays haven't been forced back into the closet, and transgender people are also starting to be accepted into many parts of society, and Hollywood, except for a handful of people like Tim Allen, are still liberal, and so on. And, because they just need to be angry about something all the time. It's become their identity. Lose that, and they lose everything. They love to accuse liberals of being victims and snowflakes, but they've become experts at it.

Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice, and fear walk hand in hand.

Neal Peart wrote that line in "Witch Hunt" from Moving Pictures in 1980.

I mean it makes sense the rubes think it’s like 50 years ago because that’s what they want to return to but pretty much all first trimester abortions are pill induced and in a lot of countries second trimester abortions are also pill induced. You know how easy it is to get said pill, super easy.

Why I’m Leaving the Republican Party
The Kavanaugh confirmation fight revealed the GOP to be the party of situational ethics and moral relativism in the name of winning at all costs.

Literally just finished reading this piece. It’s a great read.

But whatever my concerns about liberals, the true authoritarian muscle is now being flexed by the GOP, in a kind of buzzy, steroidal McCarthyism that lacks even anti-communism as a central organizing principle. The Republican Party, which controls all three branches of government and yet is addicted to whining about its own victimhood, is now the party of situational ethics and moral relativism in the name of winning at all costs.

The Republicans, however, have now eclipsed the Democrats as a threat to the rule of law and to the constitutional norms of American society. They have become all about winning. Winning means not losing, and so instead of acting like a co-equal branch of government responsible for advice and consent, congressional Republicans now act like a parliamentary party facing the constant threat of a vote of no-confidence.

That it is necessary to place limitations, including self-limitations, on the exercise of power is—or was—a core belief among conservatives. No longer. Raw power, wielded so deftly by Senator Mitch McConnell, is exercised for its own sake, and by that I mean for the sake of fleecing gullible voters on hot-button social issues so that Republicans may stay in power. Of course, the institutional GOP will say that it countenances all of Trump’s many sins, and its own straying from principle, for good reason (including, of course, the holy grail of ending legal abortion).

Politics is about the exercise of power. But the new Trumpist GOP is not exercising power in the pursuit of anything resembling principle, and certainly not for conservative or Republican principles.

It is a good read, it's just too bad that it's not from an elected or prominent GOP official, but a functionary. As true as it is, it will no doubt be completely ignored by right-wing media and the GOP as a whole.

Agreed. Plus we all know Republicans from New England are RINOs any way.

Report: Mike Pence's Gutless Political Stunt At A Colts Game Last Year Was Expensive

The report estimates that at least $350,000 was spent, which included $250,000 spent on Pence’s Air Force Two flight alone. The portion about the walkway rental corroborates reports from those in the Vice President’s media pool who said they were informed Pence would leave the game early. Pence later released a statement defending his nonsensical travel plan and explaining that it’s actually not that expensive to stop in Indiana when you’re heading to California from Las Vegas. Gotta love this party of low government spending!
