Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

This has disaster written all over it. Does this make Jason Chaffetz the leading candidate? The same moron who embarrassed himself while trying to embarrass Cecile Richards a couple of weeks ago ? Or is it the esteemed dumbass from Florida, Daniel Webster ?

That was some chatter on MSNBC about a collation candidate. I don't see that happening, but it would be nice.

GOP is going to have problems convincing voters to give them the White House if they can't elect a new Speaker when they have a 29 seat majority.

I am assuming Hillary and Bernie will hammer this point home next week more than they will hammer each other.

This is a questionnaire the Freedom Caucus made for all Speaker candidates.

This is the Politico analysis of it.

The House Freedom Caucus passed out a questionnaire and suggested changes to the House rules to every candidate for speaker of the House. Here is POLITICO's analysis of their requests:

  • The group of conservative hardliners wants to "decentralize" the Steering Committee, the panel that decides committee assignments. The HFC wanted to strip the speaker and majority leader of their outsized influence on the panel.
  • The HFC wanted to know if the new speaker would agree to only pass a debt limit increase if it included entitlement reform.
  • They asked if the candidates would commit to impeaching IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.
  • The HFC asked if the new speaker would commit to passing all 12 spending bills, and "not acquiesce to a continuing resolution in the event Senate Democrats try to block the appropriations process."

Well that's what gerrymandering (safe districts), no earmarks, and spreading ignorance will do. The chickens have come home to roost.

I'm trying to figure out what they are doing with "Rule 7." It looks like, currently, the Republicans rules state that if someone presents a resolution with 25 or more signatures, that resolution gets sent to its appropriate Conference committee, which decides whether to present it, or the Speaker can decide to present it to the Conference immediately. The amended rule would mean that any resolution with 25 or more signatures would be presented immediately, and in some cases resolutions with 15 signatures would be presented immediately.

Can't see any issues there.

Good op-ed. Thanks for posting.

Curious if and how Fox will evolve. Karl Rove and George Will are about as GOP establishment as it gets and they are still regularly featured on Fox. They got rid of Palin and haven't embraced Trump, Carson, and Cruz.

Brooks is in denial about the true nature of the modern conservative movement. A xenophobic billionaire is an ideal spokesman for people who value money and a narrow idea of what it is to be American above all else.

It's Fox. Evolution doesn't occur.
