Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

The rhetoric isn’t new it’s just not behind closed doors anymore https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...ans-racist-conversation-richard-nixon/595102/

Nixon was a terrible racist, not only against blacks, but Jews as well. Kissinger was a Jew of course, but that didn't stop Nixon from complaining about Jews and "Jewish influence" in the government from time to time to other aides and cabinet officials in the WH and elsewhere. Reagan's rant to Nixon about African "monkeys" isn't very surprising either. It is true that Trump is simply expressing in public what many Republicans - including their presidents - have privately discussed. It goes back to the notion that many posters have expressed here that the real reason "Establishment Republicans" are uncomfortable with Trump isn't because they disagree with his racial and gender views, it's simply the way he expresses them.

I suppose what’s frustrating is there’s a mainstream GOP sentiment that Dems have cried wolf one too many times about racism and are now unable to spot it when it’s really there. Isn’t the simpler explanation that it’s just pervasive?

Maybe Dems are crying wolf because there are wolves.

Agreed. Trump (and some other Republicans) have said too many things and tweeted too much stuff that's clearly racist for the Democrats to be credibly accused of "crying wolf" about his racism and misogyny. It's pretty damn blatant. The notion that Democrats throw around the charge of racism and/or sexism too much is mainly just another GOP/Fox News talking point, imo. It provides cover for Trumpites.

Yes. “Why is everything racist now?” Well it isn’t just now racist it’s just that people are identifying how pervasive the racism is and has been. We did a horrible job identifying racism for centuries so it is a social shift.

Nixon was that. I read a book on him and Kissinger, and he'd say anti-Jewish things in Kissinger's presence. He was also an angry drunk and would drunk dial people at 2:00 a.m. Given how few friends he had and how unlikable he was, it is amazing how he rose in politics to the level he did.

Who is “we?” Plenty of people have been identifying racism for centuries.

RNC chair defends GOP donor platform in tense meeting

Those close to McDaniel say she hadn’t initially planned on defending herself during the meeting, which was called to answer questions RNC members had about WinRed. But she and top aides to the president have grown aggrieved in recent days amid questions over who will profit from the new donor platform. At one point in the meeting, McDaniel referenced an anonymous email sent to reporters on Tuesday which called the RNC a “socialistic bully” and alleged an array of ethical problems with the platform.

lol

The RNC and the Trump campaign released separate statements on Wednesday saying no one working for them was profiting off WinRed.

lol lol

This thread will give the details on what is going on.

The DNC Senate and House election committees thank Graham for making GOP go on the record for an evil bill that has no chance passing the House.
