Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

He literally caught himself with his pants down.

At least he didn’t claim he was hacked or photoshop or something like that.

Lolz. Couldn't have happened to a nicer or more deserving guy. As several people have pointed out on social media, if a Liberty U. student or faculty or staff member had been caught doing that they would now be facing expulsion or being fired. Also, the young woman with him in the picture is supposedly his "wife's personal assistant." <snort> At least he wasn't caught with a pool boy this time. Somewhere I'm sure there is someone who knows enough to write a very juicy tell-all book about the private shenanigans of Little Falwell and those around him.

The position of his hand on her side and the looks on their faces says it all.

Just heard a short interview he did on WLNI talk radio in Lynchburg about the picture. He seriously sounded drunk, or as if he had just awakened from a deep sleep. Slurred his words and rambled. I guess life isn't treating Jerry so well right now.

Where Do Republicans Go From Here? The party looks brain-dead at every spot Trump touches. But off in the corners, there’s a lot of intellectual ferment.

This Brooks piece...

Good grief.

Expectedly, any attempt to analyze the Republican Party inevitably going to look like a huge pile of shit. So maybe not really his fault.

It would also be nice if these "post-mortem" type analyses were written after Trump had actually lost the election, and after the GOP had suffered major losses in the Senate and statehouses. If Trump gets a second term it won't matter if the GOP is brain-dead or not, they'll still be running the country and won't change a bit, no matter what "intellectual ferment" is brewing in the "corners" of the party. But at least the Times and other media outlets will continue to rake in sweet cash and ratings by covering the implosion of the country.

Oh they'll change if they win. We should all be concerned about that.

They're not even dog whistling anymore.

The longer he trails in the polls, the more desperate he'll get, and the more blunt and direct his racist and bigoted appeals will be. Even if he were ahead it would be an ugly campaign, as that's just who he is, but by November we may be hearing racial and ethnic and gender slurs and fearmongering not heard so publicly and directly in our politics (and certainly not by high-level politicians) in decades.

As others have said he is running to be the last president of the confederacy.

GOP Senate: let's take a month vacation to campaign on how we don't do our job.

The American people are suffering, and the Senate and Trump can't agree on another aid package.
