Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Briscoe is just a Herb looking dude.

I'm sure Brisket or whatever his name is over here doesn't have a racist bone in his body

It's a Texas Republican talking point - that he's appropriating an Hispanic identity for political purposes.

While supporting Rafael Cruz who appropriates an Anglo nickname for political purposes.

Republican Sen. Mike Folmer, 63, was charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography, and criminal use of a communication facility after law enforcement found images of child pornography on Folmer’s cellphone when they executed a search warrant at his Lebanon home.
Officials said an investigation into the matter began after authorities received a tip that a user of the microblogging site Tumblr uploaded an image of child pornography to the site.
The investigation led officials to Folmer’s home.

The Deseret News, one of Utah's largest newspapers, published an article 2 days ago that featured interviews with 6 Trump supporters around the country about why they support him and plan to vote for him next year. I know there's been hundreds of such articles written since Trump's election, but the comments from the Trumpites interviewed have some real gems. Here are a few:

John Kluge, Maryland lawyer: “He’s recognized the threat of China, and that is enormously important. Russia is not the threat; it’s China. He also got us out of the Iranian deal, put pressure on Iran. And the thing I like about it is, he’s done so in a way that is reasonable and gives our adversaries a way to walk away from the situation and solve the problem...A lot of times in the past, what the U.S. has done is demand that our adversaries do whatever we want and offer them absolutely nothing in return. Trump, because he lives in the real world, seems to understand that you can’t do that. You have to give the Chinese, the North Koreans, whoever, a reason to deal with you."

As for Trump's offensive tweets, words, and actions? “The idea that a politician should be some moral exemplar that we can all look up to vastly overemphasizes the importance of government...The president is hired help. If he does his job well, who cares whether he’s the kind of person you want your daughter to date?” He also adds that the Democrats have gone "off the rails" with left-wing socialism and are "too crazy and too stupid to vote for."

Some other gems:

“I think the guy sleeps four hours a night, and he’s working 20...He works harder and plays less than any president in the last 50 years.”

“He’s a soldier’s commander in chief; he turned the dogs loose...He has great Cabinet members and expects results. Not just photo ops. He's the Real Deal.”

“Yeah, he’s a character. But he’s a patriot. He loves this country, and it struck a chord when he said ‘Let’s make America great again’ because America was becoming a doorstop for the rest of the world.”

“I trust Trump. I believe this is a spiritual battle, and I believe he’s trying to save the country, if not the world. He’s saving the country from socialism.”

“We need a businessman to straighten things out, and he is someone who knows how to negotiate. He’s not afraid to walk away from a bad deal and say so. We’ve never had someone like that before.”

But Trump won her over during the GOP debates with his charisma. “My eyes kept going to Trump,” she said. “I only wanted to watch (him) and listen to what he said...It wasn’t one issue. It was the man. I said, ‘Who can get this done?’ It was his business background. Unfiltered. Owned by no one...I have never felt as strongly about any president as I do about this president. He needs to stay in power.”

BTW, a remarkable number of these folks claim not to have been Trump supporters at first. They were "80 percent Republicans", or Democrats, or were supporting another GOP candidate, or they refused to give their political affiliation. LOL.

Virginia county's entire board of supervisors indicted

State police announced Tuesday that all of the top government officials in a Virginia county have been indicted in connection with an investigation of financial crimes, according to the Washington Post.

Fourteen people were charged as part of the probe into alleged money laundering and embezzlement inside the local economic development authority, including all five members of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, according to the Post.

Guess what party?
