OFFICIAL 2016 Foreign Elections Thread

The opposition won 110 seats of the 167 with two still undecided. If they win those two, they will have a super majority, enabling them to fire the supreme court, begin a presidential recall process and call for an assembly to re-write the constitution.

I read the other day(from maybe not the most accurate source) that two of Hugo Chavez's daughters still live in the presidential mansion and throw expensive parties for their friends. They and Maduro reportedly piss away more than $3mil a day on their lifestyles while the citizens stand in line for 6 hours for the few goods that are in the grocery stores.

edit - the opposition claims they won the last two seats.

I heard on the radio some pretty crazy shit about how in Venezuela, a bottle of crappy wine costs a full month's wages. It's not that goods aren't available, it's that their costs have skyrocketed and there aren't wage-adjustments for inflation.

The anti-immigration issue feels way more visceral in Europe.

Pro-Remain Labour MP murdered by a man who allegedly yelled "Britain First" before shooting and stabbing her outside a constituent event :(

Her kids and husband were on the Thames yesterday. Yesterday's confrontation seemed kinda humorous and silly and today is just terrible.

This referendum business in a parliamentary democracy is a disgrace. It's not like there's a ton of veto points in the Westminster system, if leaving the EU was what the UK needed the voters could have elected UKIP or another Euroskeptic party. Farage can't even win himself a seat in Parliament yet David Cameron gave him and his ugly Nazi pals a huge megaphone with this unfocused referendum.

Wow Cameron is definitely the worst post-war PM, and perhaps the most disastrous UK PM since Lord North. He will be the man who took the UK out of Europe, pushed Scotland to leave the UK, and reunified Ireland. 150k members of the Tory party will pick his replacement for October. Stupid Nick Clegg (Deputy PM from 2010-2015) forced a change to election laws that will make snap elections less likely but who knows.

Spain's election last December lead to an unstable legislature that couldn't form a cabinet and now the country votes again on Sunday, its youth unemployment still around 50 and its economy in a worse spot than the Indians in Blood Meridian. Podemos and some other left-wing party have made an electoral alliance and aim to get first place, which they hope will somehow lead to the mainstream "socialist" party accepting their very aggressive coalition demands, or something. If they're lucky, the ECB will illegally conspire to crush their banks!

You may have spoken too quickly. Boris is probably the next PM. He'll easily outdo Cameron.

Austria's constitutional court has ruled that the country needs to re-vote its (mostly ceremonial, unless the fascist wins) presidential run-off election. Some districts started counting mail-in ballots the night before the election but they can't be counted until the day after the election. The contenders are a fascist and an independent backed by the Greens. If the fascist wins, he's promised to be the most active president ever and depose cabinets he doesn't like. The good guy won by 30k votes.

Vad can tell us more about this? All I know about the Green is that he's from Vienna and the party's platform in the city elections last fall was extending the area covered by the Wiener Linien year card.
