Republicans for POTUS, 2016 Edition

Walker Rubio is the ticket. Mark it down.

Would vote for that over Jeb personally. If Rubio can bring immigration reform with him I like it. That is something the Pubs need to figure out while they have the opportunity. If for some reason the Pubs could actually win the presidency (not likely) then that needs to be the first order of business for the new president. IT would reset the demographics issue and get everyone back on a level playing field. Without serious immigration reform, the Pubs are playing a losing battle. The latino culture matches well with conservative ideals. We just need to stop alienating them with explosive, irresponsible rhetoric.

A Florida Cuban isn't going to bring in national Latinos on immigration. Cubans enjoy very favorable immigration policies that other groups don't.

Rubio makes most sense with Walker or Christie. Jeb or Kasich have enough DC ties that they don't necessarily need a VP with Congressional ties. Martinez would be a much better pick for them.

Other than running for president, name one thing Romney has failed doing? Guy has a pretty impressive resume, and one that is loaded with financial experience. He also governed a blue state with a very moderate approach, so I think he would be very balanced in whatever role he may be assigned to take. I think his job for the Salt Lake Olympics is as good evidence as you will find for someone who can take a deficit and help turn it around.

Too easy

Kasich is too unknown for the general public so unless he's got an accelerated Obamaesque plan he's got no shot. He's got worse odds than Carson on SportsBook. I do think that his odds will drastically increase if/when he decides to run (obviously) and that Carson just has better odds because it's pretty clear he's going to at least attempt to run.

The GOP always nominates whomever "turn" it is. What makes this fun is that no one falls into that category. This one could get decided at the convention.

Ben Carson is Surgeon General if a Pub wins, right?

I can't figure out if this is a good option or not. I mean he's undoubtedly a brilliant doctor and surgeon but I'm not sure I'm too keen on someone with some pretty bizarre views being in the position.

Re: Kasich, I can't find anything more recent about him but as of May 2014 his name recognition was only polling at 28% (slightly below Scott Walker who has definitely had his name out more recently IMO but perhaps that's just my selective bias).

The reason I say Kasich is I think he can appeal to independent moderates more than anyone else in the Pub field, though I agree he's more of an unknown. But maybe they run another firebrand and lose again this year and finally figure out that a guy like Kasich is they only way they win in 2020. Just like the VA Pub party doesn't want to admit they lost last year because Kookinelli and EW Jackson are batshite crazy and are making excuses like the national $$ let them down, I don't think the party at the national level is ready to admit most of their views on social issues are getting further out of the mainstream - and will be even further out of the mainstream in another decade as my parents generation starts dying off.

That crazy lady Clinton appointed had "bizarre views" but she ended up being awesome. I've always liked her, can't remember her name.

I noticed Walker was on the Sunday shows a bit but I missed it. He's about to go through Hell, gonna find out if he's a legit contender or just the current hot hand.

One thinks masturbation is okay and the other doesn't believe in evolution, indirectly compares homosexuality to bestiality, and called the ACA the worst thing since slavery.

Well the ACA does indeed suck but not that bad. Evolution/homo beliefs...yikes!

The idea that you can just get on board with legalizing a bunch of 3rd world illegals and they will suddenly become-- even in part-- GOP voters is laughable. Let us be overly optimistic and assume that 40% of those legalized go GOP. At 10+ million, that is still 2+ million in the hole and doesn't consider the next generation of kids. Immigration spells doom for the GOP barring some kind of mega catastrophic event like the Great Depression or Civil War. There is no political purpose to be served by supporting yet another legalization. 30 years of it already has this country trending left.

They can come up with a plan, but it shouldn't include any legalization.

Carson, 10; Cruz 6. Short of a cancer diagnosis, could there be any more depressing news in the Cubano-Canadian Cruz household? You're 4 points behind a sociopath.
