Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Remember when we were having problems scoring runs?

Neither do I.

Though with Kluber, Bumgarner and Kershaw on the horizon in the next five days, our bats shall soon be tested

Bombs away! Cubs win 9-2 and sweep the Braves. Bryant(2), Fowler, Schwarber and Montero go long. Hammel with a quality start and win number 7. Brasky, that beat down was for you. Enjoy!

I would say I'd be totes OK with going 3-4 this week -- esp if one of those losses is tomorrow -- just so we can maintain our WC lead. But with PIT only 3 ahead -- and dare I say, STL only 6 up in the L column -- let's keep rollin' baaby.

Especially now that we have a healthy lead over both LAD and SF -- time to look up, not down

Wondering if the Cubs take a look at Fernando Rodney, with his connection with Maddon - mean he has been terribad this season, but cant be worse than Rafael Soriano. His speed is fine, not sure what his issue is this year without taking a deeper look into it.

Soler and Motte placed on the 15 day DL. LaStella and Rosscup recalled from Iowa as replacements. Russell is day to day with a groin strain. Coghlan will play RF. Russell will play SS asap. Castro and LaStella up the middle until Addison returns, then will platoon after that unless either get hot. A little adversity. Kluber making it look worse at the moment.

Aces eat our batters for lunch. Hamels, Sale, Kluber. Good thing we've avoided more

Looks like they are going to let Lester come out in the 9th. Ballsy with Kipnis and Lindor due up after a PH.

Let two base runners reach by hitting a guy in the back foot and because you don't wanna throw to 1st and give up a bunt single. Not ideal

Kris Bryant 'dials eight' with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Cubs win 2-1. Lester and Kluber were outstanding in a duel between aces. Rondon gets the win. Coghlan scores the other Cub run with a double in the seventh followed by a Rizzo RBI triple.

The man loves him some Wrigley.

Go Marlins. Go D'backs.

Well, at least go D'backs. Take down your old team La Pussa

Is this a slump? In his last 14 games Kyle Schwarber has 7 hits in 50 AB's. 22 strikeouts. 9 walks. 5 HR's. 13 runs scored and 11 RBI's. One golden sombrero.

Cubs are 17-4 in August - the Cubs have not won more than 20 games in a month since 1977 - they have 7 more games to reach that.

Also, for all his struggling early in the season, Dexter Fowler has been key in this Cubs run - in August, he has an OBP of .420, an OPS of 1.013, 15 BBs in 100 PA, and 13 XBH in 81 actual ABs. He has really upped his game the second half, is at his highest career fWAR right now. The unfortunate thing is that he may be playing himself out of the range of a contract that the Cubs want to pay- but it has been fun to watch.

3 game set with Giants coming up, we have Cain/Peavy/Bumgarner. Tonight is our best shot to give our BP some rest as we hammered Cain last time. Peavy pitched pretty well against us in the last series and Hendricks has been struggling lately. Then have to imagine Bumgarner will carve up our lineup like all the other aces have done and Haren will give up his standard 3 runs on 2 HRs in 5 innings - so we are going to need to either hit Bumgarner or get his pitch count high early to get to the bullpen.
