Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Playoffs bitches.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Thoyer. The fun is just beginning

However ,pleasure is short lived if you are a Cub fan and a Deacon fan. Cubs lose to the Pirates 4-0. Jordy Mercer hits a 3 run HR for the Bucs in the fifth. It was his third HR of the season and it was all the Pirates needed behind Liriano's 7.2 shut out innings. Add to this a 31-24 defeat of the Demon Deacons by Indiana and it becomes obvious it is time to hit the reset button and give Saturday a new start.

Think I'm OK with PIT in the WC game then STL in the DS should we advance. Esp with STL losing Martinez I think PIT's deffo the better team on paper, and they're playing incredibly well right now. I'll take my chances with Arrieta in one game in Pitt, think we have a better shot to beat the Cards than the Bucs over five games (esp with just one Jake start)

He did. 7IP, 1H, 9K and no runs. Cubs lead 4-0 after 7 innings. Nine earned runs in his last 101 innings. Second half ERA is 0.80.

Cubs win 4-0. Travis Wood pitches 2 innings of shut out ball to finish it off. Arrieta with a solo HR and Castro with a two run double provide the big hits. Make up game vs. the Royals tomorrow night to finish out the year at home.

Pirates can't feel great about a one game playoff against Arrieta even if they're at home and have Cole going.

2nd and 3rd best teams in baseball playing 1 game to see who moves on. Not ideal.

Yeah, my Pirates will possibly win 100 games this year for the opportunity to be in a one-game playoff against the Cy Young Award winner.

Cubs defeat the Kansas City Royals 1-0 in 11 innings on Chris Denorfia's walk off HR. Kyle Hendricks pitches 6 shutout innings and the bullpen combines for five shutout innings. No other offensive highlights. This game was all pitching and defense. On the road to Cincy for three.

Kris Bryant played 4 different positions tonight. Bullpen looked great - Cahill looked really good, Rodney was superb. Hendricks looked really good against KC's lineup with all their regulars playing.

Norf hammers the first pitch of the 11th over the left field wall, he crushed it, was sitting dead red on a fastball.

Not sure this game will mean anything, but its nice to see. Need to get this offense working again, we are struggling to get runs on the board.

Hendy has been solid at Wrigley of late but terribad on the road. Not sure we could/should save him all the way til Game 4 of an NLDS so he might wanna work on that on Saturday

Cubs beat the Reds 4-1. Dan Haren delivers 7.1 innings of 3 hit, no walk, shutout baseball for his 10th victory of the season. Cubs punch Cincy in the mouth with four runs in the first inning, then make it stand up. C.J. Edwards looks good with an inning of relief and Travis Wood earned his third save by inducing a double play on his second pitch to end the game.

Cubs thump Reds 10-3. John Lester was outstanding. He gave up 3 hits, one run and had 9 K's over 8 innings in achieving his 11th win. Austin Jackson hit two doubles, a single and had five RBI's to let Maddon know he wants to be a part of the post season roster. Starlin Castro had two singles, a double and hit his 11th HR to score three runs and drive in two runs. Addison Russell hit a double and two singles to produce 3 runs. BTW, Lester walked, singled and scored two runs to lead the offense early.

Keep on winnin'. Could put some decent pressure on PIT if the lead is down to one by Sat or Sun. If they have to come to Wrigley after being way ahead their state of mind shan't be very good

The beat goes on. Cubs sweep the Reds by winning today's game 5-3. Jason Hammel secures his tenth win by throwing five shutout innings. Bullpen wasn't lights out but did the job. Austin Jackson hit a three run HR to put the Cubs into a lead they never surrendered. Javy Baez hit a double and a single for the only multi-hit game. Probably need a sweep in Milwaukee for any hope to secure the wild card came for Chicago.
