Pro Life / Pro Choice Debate

LOL Angus attacking the process and not the substance like a good Gaetz-y Republican Trumper that he is.

Back to the topic — Wrangor, as many have asked, what do you do if abortion is outlawed? If that is your end game. What solution do conservatives have that are concrete instead of “elevate the importance of a stable family” or whatever? Conservatives seem to be lacking in substantive solutions replacing them with platitude-y “ideas” like the above. Women, especially poor ones, will continue to get abortions. That’s just a fact. Do conservatives agree with Dems that we need to increase funding for services that will decrease abortion rates?

Lulz... this was lifted almost verbatim from a Daily Beast "article" a handful of years back.

Were you planning to credit the source at some point? Or just continue to pass it on as your own work?

Is it true or not? I mean, plenty of conservatives are still opposed to lots of those things, like civil rights, gay rights/marriage, desegregation, etc. And plenty more would be happy if women and other minorities still couldn't vote and prohibition still existed.

It doesn't change the facts that on each of those major historical events that conservatives were unanimously on the wrong side of the important moral issues of the times.

never read the article. got a link to prove your point dumbass?

Anyone here except sailor could jot that list down without even thinking about it. Hardly something citation-worthy.

I started a similar argument with jhmd, that conservatism is wrong on all major issues. We never got past the first issue which I think was debt

Good article about how the historical biblical viewpoint of abortion has nothing to do with the current evangelical view in the US, and it is mostly people implanting their personal view as a biblical supported viewpoint.

That’s a good read.

“There is no doubt of the sincerity of many Christians who hold an extreme anti-abortion view. This essay is not making an argument in any way that the topic of abortion is not an important one, or to be taken lightly in any way. However, it is difficult to justify the prioritization of the abortion issue over a host of other issues from a Biblical and historical viewpoint, especially when Biblical passages concerning other social and moral issues are so prominent. There are 3,000 verses in the Bible that are concerned with social justice, taking care of the poor, the stranger, attitudes of kindness and compassion. It is dominant in the Old Testament and the New Testament and there is no ambiguity. So why is it not our dominant concern, as Christians, today?”

This is the question, phrased a different way with the 3,000 stat, that pro life evangelical republicans refuse to answer. Or if they do, they just offer the empty platitudes of “elevate two parent households” which comes with no definition of what that means or how to do it.

Abortion: When will we as a country wake up to the truth?

I think their answer to that is that tax cuts will help families and taking care of the poor is for the church and individual donations to religious organizations. Never mind churches are amassing huge wealth by soliciting charitable donations. Conservatives have spent the last four decades figuring out to mold the Bible into conservative doctrine. The end result is evangelicals pledging fealty to one of the country’s most well known heathens.

Well, that heathen is the only thing standing between them and a godless society where they couldn’t say “Merry Christmas”.

Priorities.

Well those 3,000 verses don't make Democrats the evil villains like abortion.

Flying to DC this morning. There’s about 50 boys from a Catholic Boys school heading to the March For Life wearing these hoodies.

Hard to imagine being so excited to take away someone’s rights that you make a sweatshirt.

not hard for Christians and Catholics in particular

How dare they sully Baby Yoda's good name with that BS? I love when conservatives whine about colleges indoctrinating kids with liberal ideas. There is no greater indoctrination of conservative bullshit than organized Christianity and Christian schools, and at a younger, more susceptible age. It's a cancer.
