WF -27 Tonight

According to Vegas Insider, 90% of the money is onl Elon.

Not true. 50% on each side as every game is in Vegas. That's what drives the spread up or down. If someone lays down 100 grand on one team the spread is adjusted one way or the other to entice future bets to go on the other team until the money is even again. Vegas makes their 10% on the game as long as it is played. Local bookies wish they could have an equal amount on each game, but local bookies can sluff off a large bet to their bookie if they are afraid to handle it.

Not true. Vegas does not mind if the majority of "public" money lines up on one side of a game, and will not necessarily move the line to even out the action. Vegas knows that the lines-makers over time will crush the public's misperception of a particular team's value. Lines move when professional gamblers known as "sharp players" bet on a side. Often, more than 50% of the total action will be on one side, but the line will move to attract even more action on that side if the sharps are playing the other side. Vegas also wants to keep the sharps from playing the same side.

There is a great book titled "The Odds" written by Chad Millman about how lines are set and why they move. There are also reputable handicapping services that only look for situations where a large majority of the betting action is on one side, yet the Vegas line continues to move to attract action on that same side. When that happens, the play is to bet against where all of the public money is even though the line appears to be unfavorable.

Also, the betting was so light on the WF/Elon game that the books paid no attention to the money on that game even if the vast majority was on one side. FBS/FCS games are subject to really low betting limits and as a result rarely attract major line moves. Last night, you had the books following a ton of action on the first college football slate, baseball, US Open and NFL pre-season. The WF/Elon action received no attention regardless if the few bets on the game fell on Elon.
