Indiana Game Review / FSU Game Week Discussion Thread

FSU -19, o/u 46

The FSU offense has not gotten it in gear at all yet. Cook is a beast, but Golson hasn't quite figured things out (and the o-line hasn't helped much - not Wake level bad, but not good at all). I think the Noles win pretty easy, but I don't think it'll be one of the blow outs we've seen recently. I don't think I'd want to touch that line with offensive struggles of FSU.

94, do you have a breakdown of the running plays from formations with the OL in a two point stance? I don't know how our OL can run block from a 2 pt stance. We seemed to be in them the entire 2nd half.

FSU has two FBS wins by 20 and 14. I wouldn't mess with that line or the o/u.

i will hold off until i hear what the ninja thinks.

I am surprised we have not run more screens to utilize the athleticism of Herron & Haynes the tackles. Would seem getting them out in space where they can run and put a hat on someone would be a good use of their current skill level. Herron was great moving forward and finding a LB to stick on Hinton's TD run to tie it at 7. Maybe that would be too sophisticated for them at this early point though.

I second this. The screens that I remember this weekend was the chuck wade 30 yarder and one failed attempt. I'll take those odds.
Especially against a typically over-aggressive and athletic defense like FSU. I remember Grobe driving FSU nuts with misdirections and orbits cause they were undisciplined and relied on their athleticism. I think we will need more screens this weekend to be at the least competitive.

So far I haven't seen much if any athleticism from these two. Footwork has been awful and have yet to see a pancake block from either. Frankly, they are both lumbering and learning on the job.

One final note is that Haynes seemed to be hurting badly late in the game. He was clearly limited by some type of leg injury.

He did look to be in bad pain by the end - I hope he is okay, but also wondered why they didn't take him out of the game. I guess a hurt Haynes is better than any backup option?

Outlet passes to Hines would be more effective providing the WR on his side can block.

Rocky is 100% redshirting. Duke should be back by BC. Dancel and Janvion both practicing this week. Wolford too.

What about Brown? I really think he could have been the difference against IU. They all have to step up, but Wake needs some more physical play in there.

Was interesting to hear Clawson essentially call out Grobe in today's press conference for burning redshirts on a bunch of the current juniors during his last season and only playing them for a few snaps

Which is something that Grobe claimed he would never do during most of his tenure. It just seems that his last 2-3 years involved a lot of panicking and floundering.

Clawson today:

Wolford will be the starter when he is 100%. Hinton will start until then (even if Wolford gets back to 70%-80%).

Staff is getting closer to finalizing the decision to redshirt Rocky Reid and Amari Henderson.

Ty Hayworth graded out as the top OL both of the past two weeks. Committed himself this year to doing what he needed to do on and off the field.

Ryan Anderson is playing really well in practice. He will play when he returns from suspension.

Duke Ejiofor has been cleared for full contact practice. Practice reps will be limited initially.

Thomas Brown has been saying his ankle has improved.

Depth chart changes:

Tyler Bell is now atop the depth chart at RB without the “OR”.

Tyree Harris is back at 2nd team WR-S after shifting over to WR-X when Jonathon Williams was injured. Williams is backing up Cortez Lewis again.

Zack Wary is now listed as a DE (he was previously a LB). Wary has done well as a third down pass rusher.

Indiana snap counts and observations:

First of all there were A LOT of plays run in the Indiana game. I assume that is because of all of the incomplete passes from both teams. Many players reached their season highs for snaps including Brad Watson with a whopping 102 snaps this week.

Running Back: Bell 66, Robinson 15, Colburn 10. Interesting note that Bell carried the ball on only 8 of the 66 plays he was in the game. I assume that he is our best RB at pass pro.

Slot/Flanker: Wade 57, Hines 38. The Chuck Wagon keeps rolling. First time this season he has had more snaps than Hines.

Defensive End: Very evenly distributed between Calhoun (54 snaps), Dunn (52 snaps), Stewart (53 snaps). Shaw continues to see fewer snaps than the top 3 (25 this week).

Defensive Tackle: Banks 60, Zeek Rodney 51, Harris 37, Yarbary 35

MIKE Linebacker: Lee 75 (missed snaps with an injury), Dawson 41

Rover: H. Williams 69, Kemp 56

Safety: Dancel 87 (left with injury), Glenn 63 (replaced Janvion), Janvion 51 (left with injury), Davis 13 (replaced Dancel)

Dionte Austin played CB for the first time since the Elon game. He briefly replaced Gaulden.

Third down specialists Zack Wary (37 snaps) and Josh Okonye (32 snaps) were active again after having lesser roles against run-heavy Army.

This was the second straight week that A’Lique Terry did not see any snaps.

59% of the defensive line snaps were taken by players in either their first or second year in the program.

Can Deac94 just have his own thread each week so I can go right to his posts? K, thx.

Someone can help me out but looking at the roster Jalen Latter seems like the only player who didn't play much and didn't redshirt of the true Junior class. In the true soph class, seems like Clawson didn't get much out of Thomas Dillon last year but can't remember.

He had to make a panic move in order to try to get a contract extension. It was a do or die moment. I started a thread about it back in May 2013.

Here's another post from that thread:
That's very possible, but he'd be retiring at 64 while others are still going.

As I posted on the recruiting thread, 2016 is a do-or-die year. The 2015-16 basketball team and the 2016 football team will be very experienced, especially if a lot of true freshmen play. Then both will be very young the next year.

Interesting that Clawson has done everything possible to make sure the 2017 is experienced.

Some of the true juniors:

Marquel Lee burned his redshirt to play mostly on special teams. He had 14 total tackles his freshman year, with 9 of those on special teams.
Brad Watson was similar. He had 9 tackles as a freshman, including 6 on special teams.
