SPOILERS: Star Wars: The Last Jedi Discussion Thread SPOILERS

Homage for the uber fans and it kills a star to work for the plot and average moviegoer.

i was struggling about my 6 yo as well. we have been watching rebels and clone wars but it's a little easier to let her think that the clones that get shot are ok because of their armor when it's a cartoon.

i told her when she turns 7 in september we can begin watching the originals. thinking it's be machete order but might relent and include ep 1. that gives us a year to watch the 7 episodes and then she can get excited about seeing her first (episode 8) in the theater. i was 2, 4 and 6/7 when the originals came out and. i only saw rotj in the theater and that was still pretty exciting.

Did she react to the Star Wars Rebels scene in which Tarkin ordered the Inquisitor to "punish" the two Imperials who kept letting the Rebels escape? I was surprised how that was done. It wasn't graphic but damn.

Starkiller isn't any lamer than Death Star. We've just had 30+ yrs of nostalgia and growing up with it.

Question: there are so many people opposing the FO with lightsabers that they invented a device to fight hand/hand against one? What?

if i recall that was one of the moments i distracted her enough that she did not really catch what was going on. she will often ask a question for reassurance if she is a little scared about something. "he's ok because he has the armor on right?" or "are they going to pick him up from space?"

makes sense if Luke was running a Jedi academy not too long ago

I mean, a real Jedi would end that clown; maybe "Phasma" or whatever or someone highly skilled in hand/hand combat. It's like it was built to fight a non-Force trained person with a lightsaber. And no one without the force would actually carry one of those into battle against rifles.

It was just of the only things that bugged me about the movie. it was obviously a "this looks cool for the fans" thing.

I though I saw something posted about other movies mixed in? Maybe that wasn't accurate?

Rogue One is the first of those "other movies mixed in." They haven't officially announced the others although a solo Han Solo movie taking place before the original trilogy is heavily rumored.

Thought the movie was great. Better than I expected tbh. Did everything it needed to do to set up subsequent movies and convince fans that Disney wasn't going to fuck it up. But it also was a genuinely great movie in the process. It was very funny without forcing it, had excellent new characters that I was emotionally invested in by the end, and had some truly memorable scenes and shots. Empire is the only film in the series I can definitely say was better. The fact at all of the criticisms on this thread are fairly minor says a lot.

On another note. Just realized Tim Duncan is older than Star Wars.

"The riot control stormtrooper was a specialist variant of the standard stormtrooper of the First Order. Assigned to keep order on worlds within First Order territory, they were trained in riot-control tactics and given non-lethal equipment, such as betaplast riot shields and Z6 riot control batons.

The Z6 riot control baton, also known simply as the Z6 baton, was type of baton used by First Order riot control stormtroopers to shock or pummel an opponent.[1] It was also capable of resisting the plasma blade of a lightsaber. Stormtroopers normally used it in conjunction with a riot shield, and the weapon itself was capable of being spun around by its handle."

Ahh yeah, I see now. 8 come after 7, so that makes sense.

i would not say incidentally. it's well established, outside the movies, that the empire and now first order had those weapons to counter the light sabers.

it just doesn't make sense to me that a jedi, as they are depicted in the films, couldn't beat that thing pretty easily

I think my biggest disappointment in the movie was the lack of Billy Dee.

Wouldn't be shocked to see old Billie Dee in the Ep 8. He voices Lando in Star Wars Rebels. It was a good episode. Really hoping the Han film is a Han-Chewie-Lando buddy adventure. That screams awesomeness.
