Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

That’s a great commercial.

Of course it is. It was created to drive at least some level of interest in Tour events after the PGA, which is when the real season used to end. Unofficially.

And to that end, contrived though it may be - it's been extremely successful.

Some interesting golf this weekend. The 9 Bridges course is the most interesting layout they play on the Fall PGA schedule, and Koepka is in danger of lapping the field. And while they're getting a lot of rain at Valderrama, it's a pretty and distinctive layout with the fairways winding in between the cork trees = 1 of the best courses in Europe and with some RC history.

Bill Haas just finished round 2 in the Sanderson Farms event in MS. He is currently in 21st. Not sure what he needs to do to secure his card for the year.

UPDATE: Just read that Haas need to finish 8th or better this week to earn his tour card for the season. If he does not get to 8th, Haas will need to rely on sponsors exemptions or use his one time exemption for being top 50 in the career money list.

Also, Haas had knee surgery in September to clean up a torn meniscus.

At -4, his currently tied for 21st is only one stroke from Tied for 7th.

He's gotta make some hay on that course over the weekend. Not only is it a mediocre at best Fall event, most of the better players who are playing this week are in China. Which I am guessing is why he picked Sanderson in the 1st place.

I wouldn't think he would have been eligible for the HSBC tournament in China.

Bill is 3 strokes behind where he needs to be to retain his card. Unfortunately, there are 21 players between him and where he needs to be.

even though he's a Klempton guy and we always root against the Klempton guy domestic violence is worse than Klempton so we all want Lucas to finish well - can't imagine the pressure to play well when you know if you don't you will come home to that

so we root for Lucas and Bill this week and agree that won't ever want anything else good to come out of Klempton

I was wrong - there's about 8 other Klempton guys in the top 20 at that tournament including Sam Saunders and can't root against Arnie's grandson

Currently T7

Lucas played well today. Hopefully well enough not to get beat up tonight but I don’t think his wife gives him the number ahead of time so he never really knows.

Can’t imagine playing with that type of pressure.

Let’s hope for his sake that wife agreed T-12th was good enough

Bill ended up t-8th...one stroke short of the 7th he needed

He actually finished T14 (bogeyed 18). Not a bad weekend but could have gotten a top-10 exemption into this week's event. Still, between past champion exemptions, sponsors' exemptions, and conditional status, he should have no problem getting into enough events to earn his card.

Watched a little of the Shanghai event yesterday. That course ain't easy. Nice to see it come down to 2 of our really good young guns, Schauffele and Finau. Too bad about Bill, but I'm hoping we still see a fair amount of him.
